Raids Conducted in Jammu and Kashmir Over Alleged Terror Funding Via Cryptocurrency

July 11, 2025 – Srinagar

The Jammu and Kashmir State Investigation Agency (SIA) has carried out multiple coordinated search operations across the Union Territory in connection with suspected terror funding through cryptocurrency channels. The operations took place simultaneously in Jammu, Doda, and Handwara as part of an ongoing investigation into financial networks allegedly sustaining terror activities within the region.

According to a police spokesperson, these raids have uncovered "vital evidence" pointing to a complex conspiracy involving cross-border funding mechanisms utilizing cryptocurrencies. The funding is believed to be channeled to support terrorism and disrupt peace and stability in Jammu and Kashmir.

Uncovering Financial Networks Behind Terrorism

The police detailed that the search operations were meticulously planned to secure crucial evidence aimed at unraveling these sophisticated financial networks. The ongoing probe started in 2022 under a terror-related case, focusing on identifying the sources and facilitators of terror funds within the Union Territory.

"The funding through cryptocurrency is aimed at fuelling terrorism and destabilizing peace in Jammu and Kashmir," the spokesperson stated. The operations also targeted individuals suspected of inciting youth against the Indian union, thereby posing a threat to national security.

Significant Developments in Terror Funding Investigation

The SIA expressed confidence that the recoveries made during these searches, including electronic devices and documents, will assist in identifying additional conspirators involved in this clandestine funding network. "These recovered articles are expected to aid the agency in capturing co-conspirators and accomplices orchestrating these anti-national activities," the police explained.

In a statement, the State Investigation Agency reaffirmed its commitment to eradicating terrorism and dismantling support systems that employ modern and sophisticated methods like cryptocurrency-based funding. "These search operations reflect the agency’s unwavering determination to protect the sovereignty and integrity of the nation while ensuring the safety and security of the people in Jammu and Kashmir," the agency said.

Background and Ongoing Efforts

The use of cryptocurrency in terror financing represents a significant challenge for law enforcement agencies given its decentralized and often anonymous nature. The SIA’s recent operations demonstrate a proactive approach in countering evolving tactics used by terror groups to fund their activities within the region.

Officials hope that the evidence gathered will pave the way for further arrests and disruptions of terror funding networks, thereby strengthening efforts to ensure lasting peace in Jammu and Kashmir.
