Bulandshahar Cyber Scam: Rs 4.60 Lakh Fraud Using Cryptocurrency Pretext

Bulandshahar, Uttar Pradesh – Cybercrime continues to pose a significant challenge for law enforcement in Bulandshahar district as a new case has come to light involving a sophisticated cryptocurrency scam. A resident of Sankhani village in Jahangirabad, Naeem Abbas, has been defrauded of Rs 4.60 lakh by cyber fraudsters through the messaging platform Telegram.

According to a complaint lodged at the Cyber Crime Police Station of Bulandshahar, Abbas was contacted by fraudsters promising lucrative returns in the name of cryptocurrency investments. The accused allegedly used deceptive tactics to convince him of the legitimacy of the scheme.

Details from the complaint reveal that the scam unfolded in April 2025. The fraudsters, identified as Manohar Lal Kumar and Shalini Venkatesan, convinced Abbas to transfer money into multiple bank accounts under their control on several dates. The amounts transferred included Rs 7,500 on April 13, Rs 12,500 on the same day, Rs 20,000 also on April 13, Rs 10,000 on April 14, Rs 10,000 on April 15, Rs 10,000 on April 18, followed by four transfers totaling Rs 1.70 lakh on April 19. Collectively, these transactions amounted to Rs 4.60 lakh.

The victim later attempted to withdraw money from the accounts set up by the cybercriminals but found no funds available, revealing the fraudulent nature of the transactions.

Superintendent of Police (Crime), Naresh Kumar, confirmed that a formal report has been registered against unidentified cybercriminals. The Cyber Crime team has been tasked with investigating the incident, and efforts are underway to uncover the culprits and bring them to justice promptly.

This case underscores the growing menace of cyber fraud in the region, especially involving emerging technologies like cryptocurrency that are often exploited due to lack of awareness among the public.

Authorities have urged citizens to exercise caution when dealing with online investment opportunities and to verify credentials carefully before transferring funds. The police have also encouraged anyone with information related to such scams to come forward and assist the investigation.
