Ether (ETH) Surges to New All-Time High, Surpassing 2021 Crypto Bull Market Peak
August 22, 2025 – By Olga Kharif and Sidhartha Shukla
Ether (ETH), the native cryptocurrency of the Ethereum blockchain and the second-largest digital asset by market capitalization, has surged to a record price for the first time in nearly four years. This milestone marks a significant moment in the crypto market as Ether outpaces Bitcoin, reaffirming its position as a leading digital currency.
On August 22, 2025, Ether’s price jumped by as much as 15%, reaching an intraday high of $4,866.73. This new peak slightly eclipsed its previous all-time high of $4,866.40 recorded in November 2021 during the last major crypto bull market. The cryptocurrency has gained more than 40% so far this year, outperforming Bitcoin even as the original cryptocurrency continues to climb to new heights.
The rally in Ether reflects renewed demand fueled by its reputation as a flexible and adaptive platform for a wide range of decentralized applications, smart contracts, and decentralized finance (DeFi) projects. Investors and market analysts have been closely watching Ethereum’s ecosystem growth as an important factor driving the token’s increasing value.
In contrast, Bitcoin, although still maintaining its dominance and enjoying fresh record levels, has seen a slower pace of growth compared to Ether. Bitcoin’s strength was bolstered by increased mainstream acceptance, notably after receiving public endorsement from former U.S. President Donald Trump during the 2024 presidential election cycle, which helped reinforce its appeal among retail and institutional investors alike.
This renewed optimism for Ethereum comes amid broader interest in the cryptocurrency market as technology developments, upgrades to Ethereum’s network, and increased usage contribute to heightened confidence among traders and investors.
As Ether sets a new benchmark for its valuation, market participants will be closely monitoring how this momentum affects the broader crypto landscape in the months ahead.
