Bank Holidays Next Week: Banks to Remain Open Except on Weekend Holidays (January 5–12, 2026)

As per the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) official bank holiday calendar, banks across the country, including both private and public sector lenders, will remain operational throughout the week starting January 5, 2026, except for the regular weekend holidays.

Key Highlights:

  • No bank holidays other than weekends next week: From Monday, January 5, through Friday, January 9, banks will be open as usual.
  • Bank holidays limited to Saturdays and Sundays: The only closures during this period are on Saturday, January 10, and Sunday, January 11, which are normal weekend holidays.
  • No regional or festival holidays: The RBI’s calendar indicates there are no festival-related or state-specific bank holidays during this week.

Upcoming Bank Holidays in January 2026

While there are no additional holidays next week, January as a whole will witness up to 16 bank holidays across various states, announced by the RBI to account for regional events and festivals.

Some of the notable upcoming bank holidays include:

  • January 12: Banks in West Bengal will be closed to observe Swami Vivekananda’s birth anniversary. Banks in other states will operate as normal.
  • January 14: Closure in Gujarat, Odisha, Arunachal Pradesh, and Assam due to Makar Sankranti and Magh Bihu.
  • January 15: Banks closed in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Sikkim for Pongal, Uttarayana Punyakala, and related festivals.
  • January 16-17: Banks in Tamil Nadu will close for Thiruvalluvar Day and Uzhavar Thirunal, respectively.
  • January 23: Holiday in West Bengal, Odisha, and Tripura for events including Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose’s birthday and Basanta Panchami.
  • January 26: Nationwide bank holiday marking Republic Day.

Additionally, certain Saturdays (the second and fourth) and all Sundays in January are non-working days for banks.

Planning Your Banking Activities

Given that banks will not observe any special holidays next week besides the weekend closures, customers can plan their transactions accordingly without worry of disruption from holiday schedules.

However, for services linked to state-specific holidays later in the month, it is recommended to verify local bank holiday notifications to avoid inconvenience.

About RBI’s Bank Holiday Calendar

The Reserve Bank of India annually publishes a detailed calendar listing all bank holidays recognized across India. These include national holidays, regional festivities, and Sundays or Saturdays designated as holidays.

Bank holidays can vary state-wise depending on local cultural and religious events, so awareness of the calendar helps customers and businesses plan and schedule their financial dealings seamlessly.
