Roman Reigns Talks The Rock and Cody Rhodes; Tommy Fury Eyes WWE Career; NXT Rumors Surround Oba Femi
November 27, 2024 — Bleacher Report brings you the latest updates from the WWE Universe, covering insights from Roman Reigns about his WrestleMania 40 opponents, boxing star Tommy Fury’s possible future in WWE, and speculation about NXT’s Oba Femi’s current status.
Roman Reigns Reflects on WrestleMania 40 and The Rock vs. Cody Rhodes
During a recent interview on the SI Media podcast with Jimmy Traina, WWE Superstar Roman Reigns shared his thoughts on what went down at WrestleMania 40 and the potential for a future match against The Rock.
Reigns discussed the backstage uncertainties about whether he would face The Rock or Cody Rhodes at the event. When asked if he was disappointed not to go up against The Rock, Reigns emphasized that it didn’t matter as long as he was in the main event spotlight.
"It doesn’t matter to me. I was the main event. I’m the guy that everyone wanted to dance with, you know. I am the hot chick, everyone wanted to take me out. It’s where, we just need to get there and defend this thing," Reigns said. "They are trying to stop history from happening. They are trying to take us off the pinnacle right now, so it was the same task in hand for me," he added.
After Cody Rhodes’ victory in the 2024 men’s Royal Rumble, he initially stated he would not challenge Reigns for the WWE Championship at WrestleMania 40, which opened the door for The Rock’s expected return. Fan backlash sparked a reversal of that decision, prompting The Rock to turn heel as The Final Boss and align with Reigns. Together, The Rock and Reigns defeated Rhodes and Seth Rollins in the main event of Night 1 of WrestleMania 40, while Rhodes triumphed over Reigns for the WWE title on Night 2. Looking ahead, Reigns hinted at the possibility of finally facing The Rock in the future if fans show enough enthusiasm.
"I think our fanbase and the company’s proven that if our fans are loud enough and passionate enough about something, we’re a company who—we’re not being dictated to. We have a vision for where we’re trying to go, but we know who the consumers are. We know who’s paying their hard-earned money, and we want to satisfy those people," he explained. "If that’s what the people want and The People’s Champ is down, I’m sure we can make something happen."
The Rock made a surprise return at last month’s Bad Blood event but has yet to clarify his intentions or appear again. With the ongoing storyline involving The Bloodline at Survivor Series, fans may see another opportunity for The Rock to return and potentially set the stage for a high-profile showdown with Reigns.
Tommy Fury Hints at WWE Aspirations
Rising boxing star Tommy Fury, younger brother of former world heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, revealed that he is considering a future in professional wrestling with WWE.
Fury shared a vlog on YouTube documenting his experience backstage at a recent WWE event during their UK tour. He expressed excitement about meeting WWE Superstars such as Randy Orton, Cody Rhodes, and Gunther.
"So guys, that is a night at the WWE complete. All the wrestlers showing love. Big up to Randy Orton. Absolutely amazing guy. Big up to Cody Rhodes, all of them, Gunther, the lot of them. Thank you to the WWE for showing us such appreciation. And I look forward to possibly climbing through them ropes one day. Who knows? But it’s been a great night," Fury stated.
Currently 25 years old and undefeated in professional boxing with a record of 10-0, Fury notably defeated Jake Paul and maintains close ties with the Paul family. His connections and charisma could make him a compelling opponent for WWE Superstar Logan Paul, potentially setting the stage for a crossover wrestling and boxing storyline.
NXT Star Oba Femi Reportedly Absent from TV
Rumors are swirling around Oba Femi’s recent disappearance from NXT programming. According to Fightful Select, the former NXT North American Champion has not been seen backstage or on television since his loss to Tony D’Angelo at the Halloween Havoc event on October 27. Though the reason behind his absence is unclear, speculation ranges from a possible injury to a strategic creative decision to allow Femi time off following two high-profile defeats—the end of his record 272-day North American title reign and a rematch loss.
Since making a strong debut in April 2023, capturing the NXT Breakout Tournament and winning the North American Championship by cashing in on Dragon Lee, Femi had established himself as a dominant NXT presence. Fans and insiders alike are eager to see if he returns soon to challenge for the NXT Championship, possibly targeting current titleholder Trick Williams.
