Roman Reigns Discusses The Rock, Cody Rhodes; Tommy Fury Eyes WWE Career; NXT Rumors Surround Oba Femi
Bleacher Report’s latest WWE update offers an inside look at recent developments in the wrestling world featuring Roman Reigns’ reflections on WrestleMania 40 opponents, boxer Tommy Fury’s hints at a WWE future, and speculation about NXT star Oba Femi’s absence.
Roman Reigns Opens Up About WrestleMania 40 and Potential Rock Match
In a candid interview on the SI Media podcast with Sports Illustrated’s Jimmy Traina, WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns spoke about his WrestleMania 40 experiences, particularly facing Cody Rhodes instead of “The Rock” as initially speculated for the event’s main attraction.
Reigns expressed his indifference about who he faced in the main event, emphasizing the importance of defending his title no matter the challenger. “It doesn’t matter to me. I was the main event. I’m the guy that everyone wanted to dance with,” said Reigns. “They are trying to stop history from happening. They are trying to take us off the pinnacle right now, so it was the same task in hand for me.”
Initially, after Cody Rhodes won the 2024 men’s Royal Rumble, he declined to challenge Reigns for the WWE Championship at WrestleMania 40. This fueled speculation that The Rock would take his place. However, fan backlash led Rhodes to reverse his decision, and The Rock subsequently turned heel—dubbed “The Final Boss”—aligning himself with Reigns. Ultimately, on Night 1 of WrestleMania 40, The Rock and Reigns teamed to defeat Rhodes and Seth Rollins, while Rhodes captured the WWE title from Reigns in the Night 2 main event.
When asked about a potential one-on-one match with The Rock in the future, Reigns left the door open. He noted, “If that’s what the people want and The People’s Champ is down, I’m sure we can make something happen.” The Rock made a surprise WWE return last month at Bad Blood but has yet to clarify his long-term intentions or reappear on WWE programming.
With both the new and original Bloodline factions set to clash in a WarGames match at Survivor Series, some speculate The Rock could reemerge, possibly setting the stage for a family showdown.
Boxer Tommy Fury Shows Interest in WWE Career
Tommy Fury, younger brother of former heavyweight boxing champion Tyson Fury, recently showcased his growing fascination with professional wrestling. Sharing footage from backstage at a WWE event in the UK during the company’s recent tour, Tommy praised WWE stars including Randy Orton, Cody Rhodes, and Gunther.
In a YouTube video, he expressed gratitude and hinted at a desire to “possibly climb through [the] ropes one day.” Tommy Fury, undefeated in professional boxing at 10-0 and known as the only boxer to defeat Jake Paul, could be an intriguing crossover star for WWE.
His relationship with the Paul family suggests potential storyline opportunities, particularly against Logan Paul, a current WWE Superstar. A tag match featuring the Fury brothers against the Paul brothers could draw mainstream wrestling and boxing fans alike.
NXT Star Oba Femi Reportedly Missing from Recent Tapings
Former NXT North American Champion Oba Femi has reportedly been absent from NXT tapings recently, stirring rumors regarding his status. According to Fightful Select, there have been no reports of his backstage presence following his loss to Tony D’Angelo at Halloween Havoc on October 27. Oba Femi made a strong impression since debuting in April 2023, winning the NXT Breakout Tournament and holding the North American Championship for a record-setting 272 days before being dethroned by D’Angelo. His recent consecutive losses and absence may suggest either a break for recovery, a pending main roster promotion, or a storyline reset.
Femi’s return is anticipated by many, with fans expecting him to be a prime contender for the NXT Championship and a potential successor to Trick Williams.
