Roman Reigns Discusses The Rock and Cody Rhodes; Tommy Fury Eyes WWE Future; Oba Femi Absent from NXT
An update on the latest stories shaping the WWE Universe, featuring insights from Roman Reigns, rumors about boxer Tommy Fury’s WWE prospects, and reports on NXT star Oba Femi’s recent absence.
Roman Reigns Opens Up About WrestleMania 40 Opponents: The Rock and Cody Rhodes
Roman Reigns recently sat down for an interview on the SI Media podcast with Sports Illustrated’s Jimmy Traina, where he shared candid thoughts about the main event scene at WrestleMania 40, particularly regarding his high-profile opponents The Rock and Cody Rhodes.
Reigns revealed that he did not mind facing Rhodes instead of The Rock, emphasizing his focus on defending his championship status rather than the specific opponent. “It doesn’t matter to me. I was the main event. I’m the guy everyone wanted to dance with. Whoever it was, the task was the same: defending the title and making history,” Reigns explained.
Earlier in 2024, after Cody Rhodes won the men’s Royal Rumble, he initially declared he wouldn’t challenge Reigns for the WWE Championship at WrestleMania. This sparked speculation that The Rock would take that spot. However, fan backlash led Rhodes to reverse course, and The Rock turned heel, adopting the persona of “The Final Boss” and aligning with Reigns in a tag team effort.
At WrestleMania 40, The Rock and Reigns teamed up on Night 1 to defeat Rhodes and Seth Rollins. On Night 2, Rhodes reclaimed the WWE title from Reigns in the main event.
Though the much-anticipated singles match between Reigns and The Rock didn’t materialize at WrestleMania, Reigns hinted that it remains a possibility in the future, contingent on fan demand. “If that’s what the people want and The People’s Champ is down, I’m sure we can make something happen,” Reigns said. The Rock made a surprise appearance at Bad Blood in May 2024 but has yet to clarify his long-term plans.
With a WarGames match featuring the new and original Bloodline factions scheduled for Survivor Series, WWE fans may see The Rock return to the ring soon, potentially setting the stage for a future clash with his cousin Roman Reigns.
Tommy Fury Hints at Potential WWE Career
Boxer Tommy Fury, known for his undefeated professional record and being the younger brother of heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, has publicly expressed interest in joining WWE.
A recent YouTube video showed Fury backstage during WWE’s UK tour, where he mingled with several WWE superstars, including Randy Orton, Cody Rhodes, and Gunther. Fury praised the wrestlers and the company, hinting at a possible wrestling career: “I look forward to possibly climbing through those ropes one day. Who knows?”
Tommy’s brother Tyson Fury has a history with WWE, having competed once in 2019 and gaining praise for a memorable backstage moment at WWE Clash at the Castle in 2022. Given Tommy Fury’s connections and mainstream appeal—including his history with Jake Paul, whom he defeated—he could be a valuable addition to WWE. Fans and insiders have speculated about a potential feud or tag team storyline involving the Fury brothers and the Paul brothers, possibly boosting WWE’s reach to a broader audience.
Oba Femi’s NXT Absence Raises Questions
NXT star and former North American Champion Oba Femi has reportedly been absent from NXT tapings since late October. Fightful Select reports no signs of Femi backstage following his loss to Tony D’Angelo at Halloween Havoc on October 27. The reason for the absence is unclear. It may be a strategic break following two significant losses, as Femi dropped the North American Championship after a 272-day reign, and then lost a rematch to D’Angelo. Alternatively, speculation exists about a possible injury or preparations for a call-up to WWE’s main roster.
Since debuting on television in April 2023, Femi had a rapid rise, winning the NXT Breakout Tournament and capturing the North American title. When he eventually returns, many industry voices believe he will be a strong contender for the NXT Championship and an important figure in the brand’s future.
As WWE continues to evolve with compelling storylines and intriguing new prospects, fans eagerly anticipate how these narratives involving Roman Reigns, Tommy Fury, and Oba Femi will unfold in the coming months.
