Roman Reigns Discusses The Rock, Cody Rhodes; Tommy Fury Eyes WWE; NXT Rumors Surround Oba Femi
By Mike Chiari, Bleacher Report — November 27, 2024
Bleacher Report brings the latest updates from the WWE Universe, covering Roman Reigns’ recent comments on The Rock and Cody Rhodes, Tommy Fury’s potential interest in WWE, and intriguing whispers about NXT star Oba Femi’s current status.
Roman Reigns Opens Up About WrestleMania 40 and Future Dream Matches
Roman Reigns recently shared his thoughts on both The Rock and Cody Rhodes during a candid interview on the SI Media podcast with Jimmy Traina.
Reflecting on the lead-up to WrestleMania 40, Reigns revealed that fans and WWE officials were considering a high-profile main event either featuring The Rock or Cody Rhodes against him. When asked if he was disappointed not to face The Rock, Reigns expressed that it didn’t matter who he faced — his focus was squarely on being the main event star and defending his title:
“It doesn’t matter to me. I was the main event. I’m the guy that everyone wanted to dance with… They are trying to stop history from happening, trying to take us off the pinnacle right now, so it was the same task in hand for me.”
The initially planned match dynamics shifted when Cody Rhodes won the men’s 2024 Royal Rumble but stated he would not challenge Reigns for the WWE Championship at WrestleMania. This led to speculation The Rock would take that spot. However, after fan backlash, Rhodes reversed his stance, resulting in The Rock turning heel as “The Final Boss” and aligning with Reigns. The Rock and Reigns teamed up to defeat Rhodes and Seth Rollins on Night 1 of WrestleMania 40, with Rhodes ultimately capturing the WWE title from Reigns on Night 2. When asked by Traina if a clash between Reigns and The Rock might happen in the future, Reigns said it’s certainly possible — but only if the fans demonstrate strong interest:
“If that’s what the people want and The People’s Champ is down, I’m sure we can make something happen.”
The Rock made a surprise return at the Bad Blood event last month but has remained silent on his future intentions. With an upcoming WarGames match at Survivor Series involving members of The Bloodline, fans speculate it could be an opportune moment for The Rock to reappear and build toward a high-stakes showdown with his cousin.
Tommy Fury Hints at WWE Career Possibility
Boxer Tommy Fury, younger brother of former world heavyweight boxing champion Tyson Fury, dropped hints this week that he could be exploring a career in professional wrestling with WWE.
On Sunday, Fury posted a YouTube video from backstage at a WWE show during the company’s recent UK tour. In the video, he met with WWE stars including Randy Orton, Cody Rhodes, and Gunther. He expressed gratitude and excitement for the experience and teased the possibility of becoming a WWE performer one day:
“All the wrestlers showing love… thank you to the WWE for showing us such appreciation. And I look forward to possibly climbing through those ropes one day. Who knows?”
Tommy Fury, undefeated in professional boxing at 10-0 and known for defeating Jake Paul, could become a compelling figure in WWE, especially considering his ties to the Paul family. His entrance into WWE might set up intriguing matchups with Logan Paul, currently a WWE Superstar and former United States Champion. A potential tag team encounter featuring the Fury brothers versus the Paul brothers could attract mainstream attention.
Oba Femi’s NXT Absence Sparks Speculation
Reports have emerged that Oba Femi, former NXT North American Champion, has been absent from recent NXT tapings for over a month.
Fightful Select, via Ringside News, indicates there has been no backstage presence or word about Femi since his loss to Tony D’Angelo at NXT’s Halloween Havoc on October 27. The reasons for his quiet absence remain unclear—it could be a strategic break following two significant losses or potentially related to injury or main roster promotion.
Since debuting in April 2023, Femi enjoyed a dominant run, highlighted by winning the NXT Breakout Tournament and capturing the North American Championship from Dragon Lee. His 272-day title reign set a record, only ending when D’Angelo defeated him last month, followed by a rematch loss at Halloween Havoc.
If and when Femi returns, insiders expect him to be a strong contender for the NXT Championship, possibly positioned to reclaim top status in the brand.
