WWE Updates: Roman Reigns Comments on The Rock and Cody Rhodes, Tommy Fury Eyes WWE, and Oba Femi’s NXT Absence

Roman Reigns recently shared his thoughts on his WrestleMania 40 opponents, while boxer Tommy Fury hinted at a possible future in WWE and NXT star Oba Femi’s whereabouts have attracted speculation due to his recent absence. Here’s the latest from the WWE Universe.

Roman Reigns on WrestleMania 40 Opponents and Future Matchups

During a recent interview on the SI Media podcast with Sports Illustrated’s Jimmy Traina, WWE superstar Roman Reigns opened up about his experiences surrounding WrestleMania 40 and his thoughts on facing both Cody Rhodes and The Rock. Reigns revealed that he wasn’t concerned about which opponent he was matched with at WrestleMania, just that he was in the main event.

Reigns stated, “It doesn’t matter to me. I was the main event. I’m the guy that everyone wanted to dance with. It’s where we just need to get there and defend this thing. It didn’t matter who it is. They are trying to stop history from happening. They are trying to take us off the pinnacle right now, so it was the same task in hand for me.”

Originally, after Rhodes won the 2024 Royal Rumble, he declined to challenge Reigns for the WWE Championship at WrestleMania, hinting that The Rock would take that spot. However, fan backlash led to a reversal where Rhodes chose to face Reigns, which turned The Rock heel, adopting the moniker "The Final Boss," and aligning alongside Reigns.

The Rock and Reigns teamed to defeat Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins on Night 1 of WrestleMania 40. On Night 2, Rhodes defeated Reigns to capture the WWE Championship. When asked if a Reigns vs. The Rock match could still happen, Reigns left the door open depending on fan demand.

“We’re a company that listens to our fans. If that’s what the people want and The People’s Champ is down, I’m sure we can make something happen,” Reigns shared.

The Rock made a surprise return at WWE Bad Blood last month but has yet to clarify his future plans. Upcoming events like the Survivor Series, featuring both the new and original Bloodline factions in a WarGames match, could be the stage for another appearance by The Rock and a possible storyline build toward a future showdown with Reigns.

Tommy Fury Hints at WWE Ambitions

British professional boxer Tommy Fury, brother of former heavyweight boxing champion Tyson Fury, has hinted at a possible future in WWE. In a YouTube video posted from backstage during WWE’s recent UK tour, Tommy expressed enthusiasm about the wrestlers he met and the experience overall.

“Big up to Randy Orton, Cody Rhodes, Gunther, the lot of them. Thank you to WWE for showing us such appreciation,” Fury said. “I look forward to possibly climbing through those ropes one day. Who knows?”

Tommy Fury currently holds an undefeated 10-0 record in professional boxing and is the only boxer to have defeated Jake Paul, which adds to his appeal as a crossover star. Given his family ties and existing connections, including Tyson Fury’s previous WWE involvement—his sole match being a 2019 count-out victory over Braun Strowman—Tommy’s entry into wrestling could bring fresh mainstream attention.

With Logan Paul, Jake Paul’s brother, being an active WWE Superstar and former United States Champion, a potential rivalry or even a tag team match featuring the Paul brothers versus the Fury brothers could generate significant buzz.

Oba Femi’s Absence from NXT and Future Prospects

Former WWE NXT North American Champion Oba Femi has been notably absent from WWE NXT tapings for the past month. According to Fightful Select, Femi has not been seen backstage or on television since his loss to Tony D’Angelo at the Halloween Havoc event on October 27, 2024. The exact reasons for Femi’s absence have not been disclosed publicly. It might be a period for rest, recovery, or storyline recalibration following two significant losses, including losing the North American Championship after a record 272-day reign.

Since debuting on NXT TV in April 2023, Femi rapidly rose through the ranks by winning the NXT Breakout Tournament and capturing the North American title. Though deposed from the championship last month, he remains a strong contender within NXT and could be positioned for another title run, possibly targeting the NXT Championship.

Femi’s absence might also signal preparations for a main roster call-up or a strategic break to allow the impact of his recent storyline developments to settle with the audience.

As Roman Reigns continues to carve his legacy, new talents like Tommy Fury express interest in joining the WWE ranks, and prominent NXT stars such as Oba Femi lie in wait, the WWE Universe remains dynamic and full of anticipation for what comes next. Stay tuned for more updates from the wrestling world.
