Reigns Discusses The Rock, Cody Rhodes; Tommy Fury Eyes WWE Future; NXT Rumors Surround Oba Femi
By Mike Chiari – November 27, 2024
Bleacher Report brings you the latest updates from the WWE universe, covering insights from Roman Reigns on his WrestleMania 40 main event, boxing star Tommy Fury’s potential WWE interest, and the recent absence of NXT standout Oba Femi.
Roman Reigns Speaks on WrestleMania 40, The Rock, and Cody Rhodes
In a recent interview on the SI Media podcast, Roman Reigns opened up about the main event changes at WrestleMania 40, where he ultimately faced Cody Rhodes instead of The Rock. Speaking with Sports Illustrated’s Jimmy Traina, Reigns expressed that it didn’t matter to him who he faced, as long as he was in the main event spotlight.
Reigns said, “It doesn’t matter to me. I was the main event. I’m the guy that everyone wanted to dance with… They are trying to stop history from happening. They are trying to take us off the pinnacle right now, so it was the same task at hand for me.”
Initially, after Rhodes won the 2024 men’s Royal Rumble, it seemed that The Rock would challenge Reigns for the WWE Championship at WrestleMania 40. However, fan backlash caused Rhodes to reverse his stance, and The Rock turned heel—branding himself as The Final Boss and aligning with Reigns. The Rock and Reigns then teamed up to defeat Rhodes and Seth Rollins on Night 1 of WrestleMania 40, only for Rhodes to capture the WWE title from Reigns in the Night 2 main event.
When asked about the possibility of a future match between himself and The Rock, Reigns suggested it could happen if the fans demanded it loud and clear. “If that’s what the people want and The People’s Champ is down, I’m sure we can make something happen.”
The Rock made a surprise WWE appearance last month at Bad Blood but has not revealed his intentions nor returned since. With upcoming clashes involving The Bloodline at Survivor Series, many speculate the event could be the perfect stage for The Rock’s return and potential feud with his cousin, Reigns.
Tommy Fury Considers WWE Career Path
British boxer Tommy Fury recently hinted at a possible transition into professional wrestling, sharing a behind-the-scenes glimpse from a recent WWE tour in the United Kingdom via YouTube. During the video, Fury praised WWE Superstars like Randy Orton, Cody Rhodes, and Gunther and expressed appreciation for the WWE’s hospitality.
Fury remarked, “I look forward to possibly climbing through those ropes one day. Who knows? But it’s been a great night.”
The 25-year-old comes from a wrestling-connected family—his brother Tyson Fury had a brief WWE stint, notably defeating Braun Strowman by count-out at Crown Jewel 2019, and famously knocking out Austin Theory at Clash at the Castle 2022. Tommy Fury holds an undefeated professional boxing record and is recognized as the only boxer to defeat Jake Paul, further raising his potential as a mainstream WWE attraction.
Considering his ties with the Paul family, WWE could leverage a storyline involving the Frey brothers and the Paul brothers—Logan Paul is an established WWE Superstar and former United States Champion—potentially drawing wide interest across both wrestling and boxing fans.
Oba Femi Absent from NXT After Recent Losses
Former NXT North American Champion Oba Femi has not been seen on NXT tapings or television for about a month, following back-to-back losses to Tony D’Angelo at Halloween Havoc on October 27. According to Fightful Select, there have been no reports of Femi backstage or active since these matches.
After debuting on NXT TV in April 2023, Femi quickly rose through the ranks by winning the NXT Breakout Tournament and capturing the North American title, which he held for a record 272 days before losing it to D’Angelo last month.
While the reason for Femi’s absence is unclear – possibilities include a strategic break to reset, injury, or a forthcoming main roster call-up – observers suggest NXT officials might be holding him off TV to let the impact of his recent losses fade.
Upon his return, Femi is considered a strong candidate to challenge for the NXT Championship, potentially dethroning current champion Trick Williams.
