WWE Updates: Roman Reigns on The Rock and Cody Rhodes, Tommy Fury Eyes WWE Future, NXT’s Oba Femi Absence

Bleacher Report brings the latest insights and rumors from the WWE Universe, spotlighting recent developments involving Roman Reigns, Tommy Fury, and NXT’s Oba Femi.

Roman Reigns Reflects on WrestleMania 40 Opponents and Potential Rock Match

During a recent appearance on the Sports Illustrated podcast with Jimmy Traina, Roman Reigns opened up about his experience leading up to WrestleMania 40 and his evolving relationship with both The Rock and Cody Rhodes.

Reigns revealed that he was unfazed by the backstage shifts deciding whether he would face The Rock or Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania. "It didn’t matter to me. I was the main event. I’m the guy that everyone wanted to dance with. We just need to get there and defend this thing," he explained, emphasizing his focus on maintaining his position at the pinnacle of WWE irrespective of his opponent.

While Cody Rhodes won the 2024 men’s Royal Rumble and initially declined to challenge Reigns for the WWE Championship at WrestleMania, it appeared The Rock might step into that main event role. However, fan backlash led Rhodes to reverse his stance, resulting in The Rock turning heel as "The Final Boss," aligning with Reigns.

This storyline culminated at WrestleMania 40 with two dramatic nights: The Rock and Reigns defeated Rhodes and Seth Rollins on Night 1, and Rhodes captured the WWE Championship from Reigns on Night 2. Looking ahead, Traina asked Reigns about the possibility of a future match with The Rock. Reigns suggested the door remains open if the fans desire it enough: "If that’s what the people want and The People’s Champ is down, I’m sure we can make something happen."

The Rock has not been seen regularly since a surprise return at last month’s Bad Blood event, making WWE’s upcoming Survivor Series, featuring a WarGames match between the new and original Bloodline factions, a possible stage for his return.

Tommy Fury Hints at WWE Ambitions

British boxer Tommy Fury, sibling to former world heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, has hinted at a potential future with WWE. Posting on YouTube after attending a WWE UK show, Tommy expressed admiration for WWE Superstars such as Randy Orton, Cody Rhodes, and Gunther.

"It’s been a great night," Fury said while backstage. "I look forward to possibly climbing through those ropes one day. Who knows?"

Tommy Fury, an undefeated 25-year-old boxer known for defeating Jake Paul, shares connections that could make him a strong WWE signing. His brother Tyson previously competed in WWE, and Tommy’s ties to the Paul family could set up compelling storylines, potentially even a tag showdown pitting the Fury brothers against the Paul brothers.

With his mainstream appeal and wrestling interest, Tommy Fury’s WWE prospects are attracting attention as the company looks to broaden its roster with crossover stars.

Oba Femi’s NXT Absence Sparks Speculation

NXT fans have noticed the conspicuous absence of former North American Champion Oba Femi, who has not appeared for over a month following his loss to Tony D’Angelo at Halloween Havoc on October 27. According to Fightful Select, there has been no indication of Femi’s backstage presence at recent NXT tapings. While the reason for his absence is unknown, speculation ranges from an injury or potential main roster call-up to a storyline break to let his recent setbacks settle.

Since debuting in April 2023, Femi quickly rose through NXT with a dominant run that included winning the NXT Breakout Tournament and a record 272-day North American Championship reign. After losing the title and a rematch to D’Angelo, Femi has remained off television.

If and when he returns, Femi is viewed as a strong candidate for a push toward the NXT Championship, possibly as a future challenger to current titleholder Trick Williams.
