WWE Update: Roman Reigns Discusses The Rock and Cody Rhodes, Tommy Fury Eyes WWE Future, and Oba Femi’s NXT Absence

Bleacher Report brings you the latest developments from the WWE Universe, including insights from Roman Reigns on WrestleMania 40, boxer Tommy Fury’s budding interest in wrestling, and updates on NXT standout Oba Femi.

Roman Reigns Reflects on WrestleMania 40 and Possible Match with The Rock

In a recent interview on the SI Media podcast with Sports Illustrated’s Jimmy Traina, WWE superstar Roman Reigns opened up about his experiences and thoughts surrounding WrestleMania 40, particularly regarding his matches against The Rock and Cody Rhodes.

Reigns revealed that he was unfazed by the switch from facing The Rock to Cody Rhodes in the WrestleMania 40 main event. He emphasized that being in the main event was what truly mattered to him, stating:

"It doesn’t matter to me. I was the main event. I’m the guy that everyone wanted to dance with… It’s where, we just need to get there and defend this thing. It didn’t matter who it is. They are trying to stop history from happening… so it was the same task at hand for me."

The storyline took several twists after Rhodes won the 2024 Men’s Royal Rumble and initially declined to challenge Reigns for the WWE Championship at WrestleMania. The Rock appeared poised to take that spot but a fan backlash led to Rhodes reversing his decision, which allowed The Rock to turn heel, adopting the persona “The Final Boss” and aligning with Reigns. Together, The Rock and Reigns defeated Rhodes and Seth Rollins on Night 1 of WrestleMania 40, before Rhodes claimed the WWE title from Reigns on Night 2. When asked about the long-anticipated match between Reigns and The Rock possibly happening in the future, Reigns suggested it remains a potential, hinging on fan demand:

"If that’s what the people want and The People’s Champ is down, I’m sure we can make something happen."

With The Rock’s unannounced return at last month’s Bad Blood event and the upcoming WarGames match at Survivor Series involving The Bloodline factions, fans may witness further developments potentially leading to a showdown between these WWE cousins.

Tommy Fury Teases Interest in WWE Career

Boxer Tommy Fury, younger brother of former world heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, recently hinted at a possible future in WWE. He shared a backstage video from a WWE show during the company’s UK tour on his YouTube channel, shining light on his positive experience with WWE talent including Randy Orton, Cody Rhodes, and Gunther.

Fury expressed his enthusiasm, saying:

"Big up to Randy Orton. Absolutely amazing guy. Big up to Cody Rhodes, all of them… Thank you to the WWE for showing us such appreciation. And I look forward to possibly climbing through them ropes one day. Who knows? But it’s been a great night."

At 25 years old, Tommy Fury has established himself in boxing with an undefeated record of 10-0 and holds the unique distinction of handing Jake Paul his only professional defeat. Considering his familial connection and notable ties with the Paul family, Fury could fit well into WWE storylines, potentially squaring off against Logan Paul, who is an active WWE Superstar and former United States Champion.

This prospective crossover between the Fury and Paul brothers could attract mainstream attention and offer fresh, high-profile narratives for WWE fans.

Oba Femi’s NXT Absence Sparks Speculation

Oba Femi, the former NXT North American Champion and 2023 Breakout Tournament winner, has been notably absent from NXT tapings over the past month. Reports from Fightful Select reveal that since his loss to Tony D’Angelo at Halloween Havoc on October 27—where he lost the North American Championship after an impressive 272-day reign—Femi has not been seen on television or backstage.

Femi lost a subsequent rematch to D’Angelo and hasn’t appeared in NXT since. The reasons behind this absence remain unclear; it could indicate a needed break to regroup following two significant defeats, preparation for a main roster call-up, an injury, or a strategic decision by NXT creative to hold off on his televised return for storyline reasons.

When Femi returns, he is expected to be a strong contender for the NXT Championship, possibly set to challenge current titleholder Trick Williams.
