Roman Reigns Opens Up on The Rock, Cody Rhodes, and WrestleMania 40; Tommy Fury Hints at WWE Future; Oba Femi Missing from NXT

In recent WWE news, Roman Reigns shared candid insights on his WrestleMania 40 experiences against Cody Rhodes, the possibility of a future clash with The Rock, while boxer Tommy Fury teased the potential of stepping into WWE, and NXT star Oba Femi’s absence has sparked speculation.

Reigns Reflects on WrestleMania 40 Opponents and Prospects for a Rock Match

Roman Reigns appeared on the SI Media podcast with Jimmy Traina on Tuesday, where he spoke about the dynamic leading into WrestleMania 40, notably the back-and-forth about whether he would face WWE legend The Rock or Cody Rhodes in the event’s main event.

Reigns stated that he was unfazed by the opponent switch, emphasizing his focus was on defending his championship and being the show’s centerpiece.

"It doesn’t matter to me. I was the main event. I’m the guy that everyone wanted to dance with, you know. I am the hot chick, everyone wanted to take me out," Reigns said, as relayed by Nikunj Walia of Ringside News. "They are trying to stop history from happening. They are trying to take us off the pinnacle right now, so it was the same task in hand for me."

After Cody Rhodes won the 2024 men’s Royal Rumble, he initially announced he would not challenge Reigns for the title at WrestleMania, opening the door for The Rock. However, following fan backlash, Rhodes reversed his stance, ultimately leading to The Rock’s heel turn as "The Final Boss" and his alliance with Reigns. On Night 1 of WrestleMania 40, Reigns and The Rock teamed to defeat Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins, with Rhodes later defeating Reigns on Night 2 to claim the WWE Championship.

Though the much-anticipated one-on-one between Reigns and The Rock did not materialize, Reigns did not rule out the possibility of such a match in the future, emphasizing fan demand as a key factor.

"I think our fanbase and the company’s proven that if our fans are loud enough and passionate enough about something, we’re a company who—we’re not being dictated to," Reigns noted (via Steve Carrier). "If that’s what the people want and The People’s Champ is down, I’m sure we can make something happen."

The Rock made a surprise return at WWE’s Bad Blood event last month but left his intentions unclear. With upcoming events such as the WarGames match at Survivor Series featuring multiple Bloodline members, speculation is rife that The Rock could reappear and build toward a showdown with Reigns.

Tommy Fury Shows Interest in WWE Career

Tommy Fury, the undefeated professional boxer and younger brother of Tyson Fury, hinted at a possible transition to professional wrestling during a recent backstage visit to WWE’s UK tour.

In a YouTube video posted Sunday, Fury expressed his admiration for WWE talents and left the door open to joining the squared circle himself:

"So guys, that is a night at the WWE complete. All the wrestlers showing love. Big up to Randy Orton. Absolutely amazing guy. Big up to Cody Rhodes, all of them, Gunther, the lot of them. Thank you to the WWE for showing us such appreciation. And I look forward to possibly climbing through those ropes one day. Who knows? But it’s been a great night," Fury said, as reported by Felix Upton.

Tommy Fury holds a 10-0 boxing record and notably defeated YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul, setting the stage for a potential wrestling storyline involving the Paul brothers. His older brother Tyson Fury fought once for WWE in 2019 and has been involved in WWE storylines since then, enhancing the family connection to wrestling.

Oba Femi’s Absence from NXT Sparks Rumors

Oba Femi, a former NXT North American Champion, has been notably absent from NXT tapings since late October following his loss to Tony D’Angelo at Halloween Havoc. Fightful Select, as cited by H Jenkins of Ringside News, reports no word on Femi’s whereabouts or reasons for the absence.

Femi, who debuted on NXT television in April 2023, quickly rose to prominence by winning the NXT Breakout Tournament and later captured the North American Championship, holding it for a record-setting 272 days. However, after consecutive losses—including the rematch at Halloween Havoc—he has not been seen on NXT programs.

Though it is unclear if he is dealing with an injury, being prepared for a main roster promotion, or simply taking time off to reset after major setbacks, Femi remains a strong candidate for a future NXT Championship push when he returns.

Closing Thoughts

Roman Reigns continues to stand at the center of WWE’s top storylines while remaining open to dream matches involving The Rock. Meanwhile, Tommy Fury’s flirtation with WWE could bring fresh star power inspired by the crossover appeal of his boxing and familial linkages. Finally, Oba Femi’s current hiatus from NXT invites curiosity about his next chapter in WWE.
