Roman Reigns Reflects on WrestleMania 40 Main Event and The Rock Match Possibility
In a recent appearance on the SI Media podcast with Jimmy Traina, WWE superstar Roman Reigns opened up about the back-and-forth narrative that saw him face Cody Rhodes, rather than his cousin The Rock, in the WrestleMania 40 main event. Speaking about the uncertainty of his opponent, Reigns emphasized that for him, the most important aspect was simply being part of the main event — the spotlight was his, regardless of who came through the curtain.
“It doesn’t matter to me. I was the main event. I’m the guy that everyone wanted to dance with, you know. I am the hot chick, everyone wanted to take me out,” Reigns said. “They are trying to stop history from happening. They are trying to take us off the pinnacle right now, so it was the same task in hand for me.”
The storyline twist saw Cody Rhodes initially declare he would not challenge Reigns despite winning the 2024 men’s Royal Rumble, pushing The Rock to be the challenger. Fan backlash altered plans, leading Rhodes to challenge Reigns again and The Rock shifting to a heel persona known as The Final Boss. Ultimately, The Rock and Reigns teamed up to defeat Rhodes and Seth Rollins on Night 1 of WrestleMania 40, while Rhodes captured the WWE Championship from Reigns on Night 2. Addressing the possibility of a future match with The Rock, Reigns noted that the company listens to its passionate fanbase and could facilitate the dream showdown if the demand is strong enough.
“If that’s what the people want and The People’s Champ is down, I’m sure we can make something happen,” he added.
The Rock made an unannounced return at the recent Bad Blood event but has yet to clarify his plans moving forward. With a WarGames match featuring both the new and original versions of The Bloodline set for Survivor Series, fans are hopeful The Rock might make a surprise appearance and build toward a confrontation with Reigns.
Tommy Fury Signals Interest in WWE During UK Tour Visit
Boxer Tommy Fury, younger brother of heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, hinted at exploring a wrestling career with WWE after attending a WWE show during the company’s United Kingdom tour. In a YouTube video posted Sunday, Tommy expressed enthusiasm about being backstage and meeting several top WWE stars including Randy Orton, Cody Rhodes, and Gunther.
“Thank you to the WWE for showing us such appreciation. And I look forward to possibly climbing through them ropes one day. Who knows?” Tommy said.
At 25 years old, Tommy boasts an undefeated 10-0 professional boxing record and is well known for being the only boxer to have defeated YouTube celebrity-turned-boxer Jake Paul, which could make him a compelling wrestling opponent or ally. There is speculation that a rivalry or tag team storyline pitting the Fury brothers against the Paul brothers, including WWE Superstar Logan Paul, could attract mainstream attention.
Tommy’s older brother Tyson previously worked with WWE, capturing a notable win over Braun Strowman at Crown Jewel 2019 and famously disabling Austin Theory at Clash at the Castle 2022, adding added intrigue to Tommy’s potential WWE future.
NXT Star Oba Femi Reports Absence Following Major Losses
Fightful Select reports that former NXT North American Champion Oba Femi has been noticeably absent from WWE’s NXT tapings since late October. Femi’s last match aired at Halloween Havoc on October 27, where he lost a rematch against Tony D’Angelo, suffering his second consecutive defeat after a record-breaking 272-day title reign.
The reasons for Femi’s absence are currently unclear. It could be to allow him time to regroup following those setbacks or possibly due to injury concerns. Since debuting in April 2023, Femi quickly made a name for himself, winning the NXT Breakout Tournament and staking a claim as a future top contender.
When Femi returns, he is widely expected to pursue the NXT Championship and could be poised as a prime candidate to challenge current champion Trick Williams.
