Roman Reigns Talks The Rock, Cody Rhodes, and Future WWE Plans; Tommy Fury Shows Interest in Wrestling; Oba Femi’s Recent Absence from NXT
Bleacher Report has gathered the latest updates from the WWE Universe, including insights from Roman Reigns on WrestleMania 40, Tommy Fury hinting at a WWE future, and rumors surrounding NXT’s Oba Femi.
Roman Reigns Reflects on WrestleMania 40 Main Event and Potential Rock Match
Roman Reigns shared his thoughts on the WrestleMania 40 main event situation during an interview on the SI Media podcast with Sports Illustrated’s Jimmy Traina. Reigns addressed the speculation about facing either The Rock or Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 40, explaining that his main focus was simply to be in the main event.
When asked if he was disappointed to face Rhodes instead of The Rock, Reigns said, "It doesn’t matter to me. I was the main event. I’m the guy that everyone wanted to dance with… We just need to get there and defend this thing." He emphasized that regardless of the opponent, his mission was to stop others from dethroning him atop WWE.
Initially, after Cody Rhodes won the 2024 Men’s Royal Rumble, it seemed he would not challenge Reigns at WrestleMania, leaving The Rock as the likely challenger. However, fan backlash led Rhodes to change course, which resulted in The Rock turning heel, calling himself The Final Boss, and aligning with Reigns. At WrestleMania 40, Reigns and The Rock teamed up to defeat Rhodes and Seth Rollins on Night 1, while Rhodes reclaimed the WWE Championship from Reigns on Night 2. Reigns was also asked if a match against The Rock could still happen in the future. He indicated that the possibility hinges on fan interest: "If that’s what the people want and The People’s Champ is down, I’m sure we can make something happen." The Rock’s surprise return last month at WWE’s Bad Blood event fueled speculation that a future clash between the cousins could be in the works, especially with current storyline developments such as The Bloodline feud.
Tommy Fury Suggests WWE Interest After Backstage Visit
British boxer Tommy Fury revealed he might consider a future in pro wrestling after spending time backstage during WWE’s recent UK tour. In a YouTube video posted on Sunday, Fury expressed appreciation for WWE talent and hinted at potentially “climbing through the ropes one day.”
Fury, 25, has strong ties to combat sports through his brother, Tyson Fury, who previously appeared in WWE, including a match victory at Crown Jewel 2019 and a memorable incident at Clash at the Castle 2022. Tommy Fury’s undefeated 10-0 boxing record and notable victory over Jake Paul position him as a potentially valuable WWE asset, especially given existing relationships with the Paul family.
Fans may see a possible WWE storyline featuring a rivalry or tag team between the Fury brothers and the Paul brothers, which could also help WWE attract more mainstream attention.
Oba Femi’s Absence from NXT TV and Possible Next Steps
Oba Femi, former NXT North American Champion, has not been seen on NXT programming since his loss at Halloween Havoc on October 27. Reports from Fightful Select, cited by Ringside News, confirm Femi has not been backstage for tapings in the last month. The reasons for his absence remain unknown.
Femi made a strong impact since his NXT debut in April 2023, winning the NXT Breakout Tournament and holding the North American title for a record 272 days before losing it to Tony D’Angelo. After losing the title and a subsequent rematch, he has been off television.
There is speculation that Femi’s break could be for injury recovery, a strategic reset after two losses, or preparation for a main roster call-up. When he returns, Femi is considered a top contender who could challenge for the NXT Championship and possibly dethrone current champion Trick Williams.
