Roman Reigns on The Rock and Cody Rhodes, Tommy Fury Eyes WWE, and NXT Updates on Oba Femi
Bleacher Report brings you the latest in WWE news including Roman Reigns’ thoughts on his WrestleMania 40 matches, boxer Tommy Fury’s interest in WWE, and recent rumors surrounding NXT star Oba Femi.
Roman Reigns Reflects on WrestleMania 40 and Future Rock Match
Roman Reigns recently appeared on the SI Media podcast with Sports Illustrated’s Jimmy Traina, where he shared his perspective on the main event situation at WrestleMania 40. The event featured a highly anticipated bout involving Reigns, Cody Rhodes, and The Rock.
Reigns revealed that he was indifferent about which opponent he faced, stating that his priority was being in the WrestleMania main event. He said:
"It doesn’t matter to me. I was the main event. I’m the guy that everyone wanted to dance with… It was the same task… They are trying to stop history from happening. They are trying to take us off the pinnacle right now."
Initially, after Rhodes won the 2024 men’s Royal Rumble, he ruled out challenging Reigns at WrestleMania 40, leading to The Rock being slated for the main event. However, negative fan reactions caused a sudden change of plans—Rhodes changed course while The Rock turned heel, adopting the persona "The Final Boss," aligning with Reigns. On Night 1 of WrestleMania 40, Reigns and The Rock teamed to defeat Rhodes and Seth Rollins, whereas on Night 2, Rhodes captured the WWE Championship from Reigns.
When asked about the possibility of a future match against The Rock, Reigns suggested it is feasible if the fans demand it loudly enough:
“If that’s what the people want and The People’s Champ is down, I’m sure we can make something happen.”
The Rock made a surprise return during the recent Bad Blood event but has not clarified his long-term intentions. With the upcoming WarGames match at Survivor Series featuring different generations of The Bloodline, the stage could be set for The Rock to reappear and potentially build toward a showdown with his cousin, Reigns.
Boxer Tommy Fury Hints at WWE Ambitions
Tommy Fury, younger brother of heavyweight boxing champion Tyson Fury, signaled an interest in WWE this week. In a YouTube video posted Sunday, Fury showed footage of himself backstage at a WWE event while the company toured the United Kingdom.
Fury expressed appreciation for WWE and its talent, mentioning stars like Randy Orton, Cody Rhodes, and Gunther. He commented:
“Thank you to WWE for showing us such appreciation. And I look forward to possibly climbing through those ropes one day. Who knows? But it’s been a great night.”
Having an unblemished 10-0 record in boxing and notable for being the only boxer to defeat Jake Paul, Tommy brings a high profile and crossover appeal. His relationship to the Paul brothers, including WWE superstar Logan Paul, opens the door for intriguing storylines or rivalries if he were to join WWE. Meanwhile, Tyson Fury’s past involvement with WWE—including a 2019 match victory by count-out and an infamous 2022 interference at Clash at the Castle—adds to the family’s wrestling connection.
Oba Femi’s Absence Raises Questions in NXT
Reports from Fightful Select indicate that Oba Femi, former NXT North American Champion, has not been seen at NXT tapings since his loss to Tony D’Angelo at Halloween Havoc on October 27. Femi’s absence has sparked speculation. While the reasons remain undisclosed, it may be a strategic move by WWE to give Femi time to reset following two significant losses—the North American Title loss to D’Angelo and a subsequent rematch defeat. Since debuting on TV in April 2023, Femi’s dominance was marked with tournament victories and a lengthy 272-day title reign.
His break from television could also suggest preparations for a call-up to the main WWE roster or potentially dealing with an injury. Fans hope when Femi returns, he will be positioned to contend for the NXT Championship, possibly becoming a prime candidate to dethrone current champion Trick Williams.
