Roman Reigns Reflects on WrestleMania 40: Facing Cody Rhodes and The Rock
Roman Reigns recently opened up about his main event experience at WrestleMania 40 and his thoughts on wrestling legends The Rock and Cody Rhodes during an interview on the SI Media podcast hosted by Jimmy Traina.
When asked if he was disappointed about facing Cody Rhodes instead of The Rock in the coveted WrestleMania 40 main event, Reigns shrugged off any concern. “It doesn’t matter to me. I was the main event. I’m the guy that everyone wanted to dance with,” Reigns said, emphasizing that his focus was on defending his championship. “They are trying to stop history from happening, trying to take us off the pinnacle right now, so it was the same task in hand for me.”
The storyline underwent several twists after Rhodes won the 2024 Men’s Royal Rumble. Rhodes initially declared he would not challenge Reigns for the WWE Championship at WrestleMania, seemingly clearing the path for The Rock to step in. However, fan backlash prompted Rhodes to reverse course, leading to The Rock turning heel as "The Final Boss" and aligning with Reigns. On Night 1 of WrestleMania 40, Reigns and The Rock teamed up to defeat Rhodes and Seth Rollins, but the following night Rhodes captured the WWE title from Reigns in the main event.
Addressing the possibility of a future match with The Rock, Reigns hinted at potential plans if the fans made their voices heard: “If that’s what the people want and The People’s Champ is down, I’m sure we can make something happen.” The Rock made a surprise return at Bad Blood last month but left his intentions ambiguous. With the upcoming WarGames match featuring The Bloodline at Survivor Series, fans could witness another major milestone building toward a Reigns vs. Rock showdown.
Tommy Fury Hints at WWE Aspirations After Backstage Visit
Boxing star Tommy Fury revealed this week that he may be interested in pursuing a career in professional wrestling with WWE. During a backstage visit to a recent WWE event on the company’s United Kingdom tour, Fury posted a video on his YouTube channel.
Expressing gratitude to WWE wrestlers such as Randy Orton, Cody Rhodes, and Gunther, Fury stated, “I look forward to possibly climbing through them ropes one day. Who knows? But it’s been a great night.” The 25-year-old younger brother of former world heavyweight boxing champion Tyson Fury, who previously dabbled in WWE, appears open to wrestling opportunities.
Tommy Fury holds a perfect 10-0 boxing record, including a victory over Jake Paul. A crossover into WWE could set up intriguing storylines, especially considering his connection to the Paul family. Logan Paul, a current WWE Superstar and former United States Champion, could provide a compelling rivalry, potentially spawning a “Paul brothers vs. Fury brothers” angle appealing to broader audiences.
Oba Femi Reportedly Absent from NXT Following Recent Losses
Former NXT North American Champion Oba Femi has been noticeably absent from NXT programming and tapings following his title loss. According to Fightful Select, Femi has not been seen backstage at NXT since his defeat by Tony D’Angelo on October 27 at Halloween Havoc.
The cause of Femi’s absence remains unclear. It could be a strategic move to allow him time to regroup after two significant losses or possibly due to injury. After debuting on NXT television in April 2023, Femi enjoyed a successful run, winning the NXT Breakout Tournament and securing a record 272-day reign as North American Champion before dropping the title to D’Angelo.
When Femi returns, speculation suggests he may be positioned as a strong contender for the NXT Championship, potentially challenging current champion Trick Williams.
