Roman Reigns Opens Up on The Rock, Cody Rhodes, and WrestleMania 40 Main Event
In a recent interview on the SI Media podcast with Jimmy Traina, WWE superstar Roman Reigns shared his thoughts on the shifting dynamics surrounding the WrestleMania 40 main event, which ultimately featured him defending his WWE Championship against Cody Rhodes. Reigns discussed his feelings about nearly facing The Rock at the event, explaining that it did not matter to him who he faced as long as he was headlining the show.
“I was the main event. I’m the guy that everyone wanted to dance with. It didn’t matter who it was,” Reigns said. He emphasized that regardless of the opponent, the goal was the same: to defend his championship and continue his historic reign.
The storyline took a dramatic turn when Rhodes, after winning the 2024 men’s Royal Rumble, initially declined a title shot against Reigns at WrestleMania, paving the way for The Rock’s anticipated return. However, Bryan reversal by Rhodes and a heel turn by The Rock, who became "The Final Boss" aligned with Reigns, led to a tag team main event on Night 1 of WrestleMania 40 where The Rock and Reigns defeated Rhodes and Seth Rollins. Night 2 saw Rhodes defeat Reigns to claim the WWE title.
When asked about the prospects of a future Reigns vs. Rock match, Reigns indicated that it could happen if the fans loudly demanded it, stating, “If that’s what the people want and The People’s Champ is down, I’m sure we can make something happen.” The Rock, who made a surprise appearance at last month’s Bad Blood event, has yet to commit to a storyline, but with ongoing rivalries involving The Bloodline, speculation about a showdown with Reigns continues to build.
Tommy Fury Considers WWE Future After Backstage Visit
Boxing sensation Tommy Fury, brother of former world heavyweight champ Tyson Fury, hinted at a possible move into professional wrestling. Posting a backstage video from a recent WWE UK tour, Tommy expressed appreciation for the WWE environment and the wrestlers he met, including notable stars Randy Orton, Cody Rhodes, and Gunther.
Fury said, “I look forward to possibly climbing through those ropes one day,” indicating his interest in exploring WWE as a potential career avenue. At 25 years old and undefeated in his professional boxing career, Fury could bring athleticism and cross-sport appeal to WWE programming.
His brother Tyson previously had a brief WWE stint, notably defeating Braun Strowman by count-out at Crown Jewel 2019, and more recently involving himself in WWE storylines during the Clash at the Castle event in 2022. Given Tommy’s connection to the Paul family—rivals of his in boxing—there is potential for engaging storylines with Logan Paul, a current WWE Superstar.
Absence of Oba Femi from NXT Sparks Speculation
Former NXT North American Champion Oba Femi has reportedly been absent from NXT tapings and programming since his loss to Tony D’Angelo at Halloween Havoc on October 27, 2024. Fightful Select reports no backstage sightings of Femi in the past month. The exact reason for his absence remains unclear.
Femi burst onto the NXT scene with an impressive run after his televised debut in April 2023, capturing the NXT Breakout Tournament title and defeating Dragon Lee to win the North American Championship. His title reign lasted a record-breaking 272 days until D’Angelo took the belt last month. After a subsequent loss in the rematch at Halloween Havoc, Femi has been off television.
Speculation ranges from an injury or a main roster call-up to a strategic booking decision to let fans move past his losses. Fans and insiders alike view Femi as a strong contender for the NXT Championship upon his return, with many considering him a prime challenger for current champion Trick Williams.
