Latest WWE Updates: Roman Reigns on The Rock & Cody Rhodes, Tommy Fury Eyes WWE Debut, NXT’s Oba Femi Status
Bleacher Report brings you the newest insights from the WWE universe, covering Roman Reigns’ reflections on WrestleMania 40, boxer Tommy Fury’s potential wrestling future, and rumors around NXT standout Oba Femi.
Roman Reigns Reflects on WrestleMania 40 Main Event Choices and Potential Rock Match
Roman Reigns recently opened up in an interview on the SI Media podcast with Jimmy Traina about his WrestleMania 40 experience and the highly anticipated, but ultimately unrealized, match against The Rock. The Original Tribal Chief revealed that despite WWE’s back-and-forth on whether he would face Cody Rhodes or The Rock in the main event, it didn’t matter to him as long as he was headlining:
"It doesn’t matter to me. I was the main event. I’m the guy that everyone wanted to dance with, you know. I am the hot chick, everyone wanted to take me out. It’s where, we just need to get there and defend this thing," said Reigns.
The narrative had shifted multiple times after Rhodes won the 2024 men’s Royal Rumble but initially declared he would not challenge Reigns at WrestleMania 40. The apparent plan was for The Rock to take that spot. After negative fan reactions, Rhodes reversed his stance, and The Rock turned heel as "The Final Boss," aligning with Reigns. The Rock and Reigns teamed up to defeat Rhodes and Seth Rollins on Night 1 of WrestleMania 40, only for Rhodes to capture the WWE Championship from Reigns on Night 2. When asked if a future match between The Rock and Reigns could happen, Reigns responded optimistically:
"I think our fanbase and the company’s proven that if our fans are loud enough and passionate enough about something… If that’s what the people want and The People’s Champ is down, I’m sure we can make something happen."
The Rock surprised fans last month with an unannounced WWE return at Bad Blood, leaving speculation open about his next moves. With the upcoming WarGames match at Survivor Series featuring the new and original Bloodline factions, The Rock could potentially reappear, setting the stage for a high-profile showdown with Reigns.
Tommy Fury Hints at WWE Ambitions After UK Tour Visit
British professional boxer Tommy Fury, brother of heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, recently sparked intrigue about a possible transition into pro wrestling. In a YouTube video from WWE’s UK tour, Fury showcased backstage access and interactions with WWE talents:
"Big up to Randy Orton. Absolutely amazing guy. Big up to Cody Rhodes, all of them, Gunther, the lot of them. Thank you to the WWE for showing us such appreciation. And I look forward to possibly climbing through them ropes one day. Who knows? But it’s been a great night."
Tommy Fury, undefeated in his boxing career and famously the only boxer to defeat Jake Paul, could be a compelling addition to WWE’s roster. With his ties to the Paul family and his brother Tyson’s prior WWE cameo—including a victory at Crown Jewel 2019 and an infamous interference at Clash at the Castle 2022—WWE may well have an eye on Tommy for future storylines, possibly setting up matches involving Logan Paul.
Oba Femi’s Absence from NXT Raises Questions
Former NXT North American Champion Oba Femi has not appeared in NXT programming or tapings since late October. Fightful Select reports that since his defeat to Tony D’Angelo at Halloween Havoc on October 27, Femi has been notably absent backstage during NXT events.
The reasons are currently unclear. It might be a strategic decision to allow Femi to regroup following back-to-back losses, or it could indicate preparations for a main roster call-up, dealing with an injury, or another storyline development.
Femi, who burst onto the scene with a strong run—winning the NXT Breakout Tournament and holding the North American title for a record 272 days—could be primed for a future push toward the NXT Championship. Many fans and insiders see him as a plausible candidate to dethrone current champion Trick Williams once he returns.
