Roman Reigns Reflects on WrestleMania 40 Opponents, Tommy Fury Considers WWE Future, NXT Star Oba Femi’s Absence Sparks Speculation

Bleacher Report brings the latest updates from the WWE Universe, including insights from Roman Reigns on his WrestleMania 40 battles, potential WWE ambitions of boxer Tommy Fury, and rumors surrounding NXT standout Oba Femi.

Roman Reigns Talks The Rock, Cody Rhodes, and WrestleMania 40

In a recent interview on the SI Media podcast with Sports Illustrated’s Jimmy Traina, WWE superstar Roman Reigns spoke candidly about WrestleMania 40 and his experiences facing both The Rock and Cody Rhodes.

Reigns revealed that he was unfazed by the uncertainty regarding his WrestleMania 40 opponent’s identity, whether it be his cousin The Rock or top star Cody Rhodes. “It doesn’t matter to me. I was the main event. I’m the guy everyone wanted to dance with,” Reigns said, stating that his focus was on defending his championship against anyone aiming to stop his historic run.

Initially, after Cody Rhodes secured his victory in the 2024 men’s Royal Rumble, he declined to challenge Reigns at WrestleMania 40, leading to speculation that The Rock would step into that role. However, a negative fan reaction to the switch prompted Rhodes to change course, which resulted in The Rock’s dramatic heel turn as “The Final Boss” and an alliance with Reigns.

At WrestleMania 40, The Rock and Reigns teamed up to defeat Rhodes and Seth Rollins in the Night 1 main event, followed by Rhodes capturing the WWE Championship from Reigns in the Night 2 headline match.

When asked about the possibility of a future one-on-one match against The Rock, Reigns indicated openness to the idea if the fan demand is strong. “If that’s what the people want and The People’s Champ is down, I’m sure we can make something happen,” he said. The Rock had made a surprise return at Bad Blood last month but has yet to clarify his future intentions with the company.

Tommy Fury Hints at WWE Ambitions

Tommy Fury, the undefeated professional boxer and younger brother of former world heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, has hinted at exploring a career in professional wrestling.

In a YouTube video posted recently, Fury shared his experience attending a WWE event during the company’s UK tour. He expressed appreciation for the wrestlers and WWE in general, mentioning stars such as Randy Orton, Cody Rhodes, and Gunther. Fury added, “I look forward to possibly climbing through those ropes one day. Who knows?”

Tommy Fury’s family connection to wrestling is notable, with his brother Tyson having fought a high-profile match against Braun Strowman at WWE Crown Jewel 2019 and involving himself in WWE storylines such as the Money in the Bank angle at Clash at the Castle 2022. Given Tommy Fury’s undefeated boxing record and his connection to the Paul family—having defeated Jake Paul—there is potential for compelling WWE storylines involving the Fury and Paul brothers, which could appeal to a broader mainstream audience.

Oba Femi’s NXT Absence Raises Questions

Oba Femi, the former NXT North American Champion and breakout star, has been notably absent from WWE’s NXT programming over the past month, sparking speculation about his status.

Fightful Select reports that there have been no signs of Femi backstage at recent NXT tapings following his loss to Tony D’Angelo at Halloween Havoc on October 27. The reason for his absence has not been disclosed, but it could be related to time off for recuperation or a strategic break following two significant losses.

Femi, who made his televised NXT debut in April 2023, rapidly rose through the ranks by winning the NXT Breakout Tournament and capturing the North American Championship from Dragon Lee. His 272-day title reign was snapped last month, followed by a rematch defeat at Halloween Havoc.

Speculation remains that Femi may be preparing for a main roster call-up or simply being rested. Upon his return, he is viewed as a strong contender to challenge for the NXT Championship, potentially dethroning current titleholder Trick Williams.
