Roman Reigns Reflects on WrestleMania 40 Opponents, Tommy Fury Contemplates WWE Career, and Oba Femi’s NXT Absence Sparks Speculation
In the latest developments within the WWE Universe, Roman Reigns has shared his perspectives on his WrestleMania 40 opponents The Rock and Cody Rhodes, boxing star Tommy Fury has hinted at a possible future in professional wrestling with WWE, and NXT’s Oba Femi’s recent absence from tapings has stirred curiosity among fans.
Roman Reigns Comments on Facing The Rock and Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 40
During a recent appearance on the SI Media podcast hosted by Jimmy Traina, Roman Reigns opened up about the WrestleMania 40 main event debate that saw WWE initially link him against The Rock, only for Cody Rhodes to ultimately take the spot.
Asked if he felt disappointed about not facing The Rock, Reigns dismissed any such feelings, emphasizing the importance of being in the main event itself. “It doesn’t matter to me. I was the main event. I’m the guy everyone wanted to dance with,” Reigns said. “They’re trying to stop history from happening, trying to take us off the pinnacle. So, it was the same task in hand for me.”
The situation evolved in early 2024 when Rhodes won the men’s Royal Rumble but surprisingly declined to challenge Reigns for the WWE Championship at WrestleMania 40, leading to a storyline where The Rock turned heel, adopting the moniker “The Final Boss” and teaming with Reigns. On Night 1 of WrestleMania 40, Reigns and The Rock defeated Rhodes and Seth Rollins, but Rhodes ultimately defeated Reigns in the Night 2 main event to capture the WWE Championship.
Traina inquired if a future match between Reigns and The Rock remains a possibility. Reigns suggested that fan demand could drive such a scenario. “If that’s what the people want and The People’s Champ is down, I’m sure we can make something happen,” he said.
The Rock recently made an unannounced appearance at WWE’s Bad Blood event but has yet to clarify his intentions or return, leaving open the door for a potential clash, possibly at the upcoming Survivor Series, where The Bloodline storyline will continue.
Tommy Fury Expresses Interest in WWE During UK Tour
Tommy Fury, the undefeated professional boxer and younger brother of former heavyweight boxing champion Tyson Fury, dropped hints about a potential WWE career during WWE’s recent UK tour.
In a YouTube video posted Sunday showing backstage footage from a WWE event, Fury praised WWE Superstars such as Randy Orton, Cody Rhodes, and Gunther, and expressed curiosity about entering the wrestling world someday.
“So guys, that is a night at the WWE complete. All the wrestlers showing love…Thank you to WWE for showing us such appreciation. And I look forward to possibly climbing through them ropes one day. Who knows?” Fury said.
Tommy Fury’s connection to wrestling isn’t new—his brother Tyson had a one-off WWE match against Braun Strowman at Crown Jewel 2019 and famously interfered to stop Austin Theory from cashing in his Money in the Bank contract at Clash at the Castle 2022. With Tommy’s 10-0 boxing record and his notable victory over Jake Paul, there’s speculation that he could be positioned as a potential rival or ally for the Paul brothers, especially WWE Superstar Logan Paul, adding mainstream appeal.
Oba Femi’s Mysterious Absence from NXT Programming
NXT fans have noticed the conspicuous absence of Oba Femi from recent NXT tapings and television episodes. According to Fightful Select, Femi has not been backstage at NXT since his loss at Halloween Havoc on October 27, 2024, where he dropped the North American Championship to Tony D’Angelo.
Femi had enjoyed a strong run since debuting on television in April 2023, capturing the NXT Breakout Tournament and subsequently defeating Dragon Lee for the North American Championship. His 272-day title reign was one of the lengthiest in NXT history.
His recent back-to-back losses and absence from programming have raised questions about his status—whether he is taking time off for injury, preparing for a main roster call-up, or simply being held off TV while creative recalibrates his character.
If and when he returns, Femi remains a compelling contender for the NXT Championship and is expected to be a major player in the brand’s future landscape.
WWE’s landscape continues to evolve with major storylines, possible new talent integration, and unexpected developments. Fans will keep a watchful eye on how these story threads progress heading into the new year.
