Wrestling World Update: Roman Reigns on The Rock and Cody Rhodes, Tommy Fury Eyes WWE Career, and NXT’s Oba Femi MIA

In the latest developments from the WWE universe, Roman Reigns recently opened up about his experiences with both The Rock and Cody Rhodes, boxer Tommy Fury has hinted at a potential future in the pro wrestling world with WWE, and former NXT North American champion Oba Femi has been absent from programming, sparking speculation about his status.

Roman Reigns Reflects on WrestleMania 40 and Possible Rock Match

During a recent appearance on the Sports Illustrated podcast with Jimmy Traina, WWE’s “Tribal Chief” Roman Reigns shared candid thoughts about the main event scene at WrestleMania 40 and his interactions with fellow top stars The Rock and Cody Rhodes.

Reigns discussed the back-and-forth nature of the WrestleMania 40 main event booking in which he ended up facing Rhodes instead of The Rock. Despite the anticipation, Reigns expressed that being the main event centerpiece was what mattered most to him, regardless of his opponent.

"It doesn’t matter to me. I was the main event. I’m the guy that everyone wanted to dance with… It’s where, we just need to get there and defend this thing. It didn’t matter who it is. They are trying to stop history from happening. They are trying to take us off the pinnacle right now, so it was the same task in hand for me," Reigns said.

Originally, after Rhodes secured victory in the 2024 men’s Royal Rumble, it appeared that he would not challenge Reigns for the WWE Championship at WrestleMania 40, leading to The Rock being the top contender. However, fan backlash caused Rhodes to reverse course, prompting The Rock to turn heel — now known as “The Final Boss” — and team with Reigns. Together, Reigns and The Rock defeated Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins on Night 1 of WrestleMania 40, before Rhodes returned on Night 2 to claim the WWE title from Reigns.

When asked about the possibility of a future WWE title match between himself and The Rock — a dream scenario for many fans — Reigns suggested the door remains open if fans make their desire known.

"If that’s what the people want and The People’s Champ is down, I’m sure we can make something happen," Reigns noted.

The Rock made an unannounced WWE appearance last month at the Bad Blood event but has not appeared again since. With WWE’s Survivor Series event coming up, which will feature a WarGames match involving the Bloodline factions, speculation is rife that The Rock could re-emerge and set up a marquee showdown with Reigns in the near future.

Tommy Fury Hints at WWE Ambitions

British boxer Tommy Fury surprised wrestling fans by hinting at a potential career path in WWE. The younger brother of former world heavyweight boxing champion Tyson Fury was seen backstage at a recent WWE United Kingdom show, mingling with established WWE superstars including Randy Orton, Cody Rhodes, and Gunther.

In a video posted to YouTube, Fury expressed appreciation for the WWE community and teased the possibility of entering the pro wrestling ring one day.

"So guys, that is a night at the WWE complete. All the wrestlers showing love. Big up to Randy Orton. Absolutely amazing guy. Big up to Cody Rhodes… Thank you to the WWE for showing us such appreciation. And I look forward to possibly climbing through them ropes one day. Who knows?" Fury said.

At 25 years old and undefeated with a 10-0 boxing record, Tommy Fury carries significant name recognition, particularly given his family’s ties to combat sports and WWE history — Tyson had a one-off match in WWE’s Crown Jewel event in 2019. Tommy’s connection to the Paul family and his status as the only boxer to defeat Jake Paul adds another intriguing layer to a potential wrestling future. He could be positioned as a fresh opponent for Logan Paul, a current WWE Superstar.

Industry watchers will be curious to see if WWE capitalizes on this potential crossover to boost interest from a broader mainstream audience.

Oba Femi’s NXT Absence Sparks Speculation

Meanwhile, in NXT, former North American Champion Oba Femi has not appeared on programming or at tapings since his loss to Tony D’Angelo at Halloween Havoc on October 27. According to Fightful Select, there has been no sign of Femi backstage, causing speculation among fans and wrestling insiders.

Femi had a strong run after debuting in April 2023, winning the NXT Breakout Tournament and capturing the North American title from Dragon Lee, holding it for a record 272 days. His first televised loss came in October when D’Angelo ended his championship reign, followed by a rematch defeat at Halloween Havoc.

The reasons behind Femi’s absence remain unknown. Possible explanations include a need for a break following consecutive losses, an impending WWE main roster call-up, injury recovery, or creative decisions to refresh his character.

Whenever he returns, many consider Femi a prime candidate to challenge for the NXT Championship, perhaps as a successor to current champion Trick Williams.
