Latest WWE Updates: Roman Reigns on The Rock and Cody Rhodes, Tommy Fury Eyes WWE, and Oba Femi’s NXT Absence

The WWE Universe has witnessed some significant developments recently, ranging from major WrestleMania 40 reflections by Roman Reigns to new potential crossovers involving boxing star Tommy Fury. Meanwhile, the NXT brand faces questions about the whereabouts of former North American Champion Oba Femi. Here’s a detailed look at the latest news.

Roman Reigns Reflects on WrestleMania 40 Opponents and Future Possibilities

Roman Reigns recently sat down with Sports Illustrated’s Jimmy Traina on the SI Media podcast to discuss his thoughts on The Rock and Cody Rhodes, especially regarding WrestleMania 40’s main event.

Reigns shared insight into the back-and-forth speculation about whether he would face The Rock or Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 40. When asked if he was disappointed facing Rhodes over The Rock, Reigns stated that it didn’t matter, as long as he was in the main event spotlight:

"It doesn’t matter to me. I was the main event. I’m the guy that everyone wanted to dance with, you know. I am the hot chick, everyone wanted to take me out. It’s where, we just need to get there and defend this thing. It didn’t matter who it is. They are trying to stop history from happening. They are trying to take us off the pinnacle right now, so it was the same task in hand for me."

Reigns described being the “Original Tribal Chief” and underscored the importance of being at the top, regardless of the challenger.

The initial setup had Cody Rhodes, the 2024 Royal Rumble winner, deciding not to challenge Reigns for the WWE Championship at WrestleMania 40. This led to speculation about The Rock stepping into the spotlight. However, fan backlash prompted a change in that plan, leading to a heel turn for The Rock—dubbed “The Final Boss”—who allied with Reigns. The Rock and Reigns teamed up to defeat Rhodes and Seth Rollins on Night 1, building to Rhodes’ eventual WWE Championship win over Reigns on Night 2. When Traina asked if a Rock vs. Reigns one-on-one match might happen in the future, Reigns was open to it, stating:

“I think our fanbase and the company’s proven that if our fans are loud enough and passionate enough about something, we’re not being dictated to. We have a vision for where we’re trying to go, but we know who the consumers are, we know who’s paying their hard-earned money, and we want to satisfy those people.”

He added that if the fans want it and The People’s Champion is available, a match could be made.

The Rock made a surprise WWE appearance last month at Bad Blood but hasn’t clarified his intentions since. With the ongoing family drama involving The Bloodline clan, including a WarGames match at Survivor Series, many speculate that The Rock’s next WWE chapter could be imminent.

Tommy Fury Hints at Possible WWE Career

Tommy Fury, the undefeated professional boxer and younger brother of heavyweight champ Tyson Fury, has shown interest in pro wrestling and WWE.

During a recent WWE UK tour, Fury posted a YouTube video backstage, sharing his excitement about meeting WWE talents like Randy Orton, Cody Rhodes, and Gunther. He expressed enthusiasm about possibly stepping into the wrestling ring one day:

"Thank you to the WWE for showing us such appreciation. And I look forward to possibly climbing through them ropes one day. Who knows? But it’s been a great night."

At 25 years old, Tommy Fury has built his own reputation with a 10-0 boxing record and the distinction of being the only boxer to defeat Jake Paul. With close ties to the Paul family—specifically to Logan Paul, a WWE Superstar—the potential for a boxing-meets-wrestling storyline is strong. WWE could leverage these connections to craft intriguing rivalries or tag matches to attract fans from both worlds.

Tommy’s older brother Tyson Fury previously dabbled in WWE, winning a single match at Crown Jewel in 2019. Tyson also famously intervened in 2022 to knock out Austin Theory during Money in the Bank, preventing him from cashing in.

Tommy Fury’s budding relationship with WWE remains unofficial but highly anticipated by fans.

Oba Femi’s Quiet Absence from NXT Raises Questions

Oba Femi, former NXT North American Champion and breakout star, has been noticeably missing from recent NXT programming and tapings.

Sources from Fightful Select report that since his loss to Tony D’Angelo at Halloween Havoc on October 27, Femi has not been seen backstage. The reasons remain unclear—it could be a strategic break following two significant losses or possibly preparations for a bigger role.

Femi’s rise in WWE began in April 2023, marked by a dominant streak including winning the NXT Breakout Tournament and a lengthy 272-day North American Championship reign.

His absence has fueled speculation about potential injury, a main roster call-up, or a storyline hiatus to let the impact of his title losses settle.

When Femi returns, industry insiders believe he’s well-positioned to pursue the NXT Championship and remain a key player in NXT’s evolving landscape.
