Roman Reigns Talks The Rock, Cody Rhodes; Tommy Fury Eyes WWE Future; NXT Rumors on Oba Femi

By Mike Chiari – November 27, 2024

Bleacher Report brings you the latest updates from the WWE Universe, highlighting revelations from Roman Reigns about his WrestleMania 40 experiences, boxer Tommy Fury’s interest in WWE, and recent speculation surrounding NXT’s Oba Femi.

Roman Reigns Reflects on WrestleMania 40 and Discusses The Rock Match Possibility

Roman Reigns recently shared his thoughts on both The Rock and Cody Rhodes during an interview on the SI Media podcast with Sports Illustrated’s Jimmy Traina. Discussing the main event scene at WrestleMania 40, Reigns offered insight into his feelings about facing Rhodes instead of The Rock, as WWE reportedly deliberated between the two matchups.

When asked if he was disappointed not to face The Rock, Reigns emphasized that it didn’t matter to him who his opponent was, as long as he was in the spotlight. “I was the main event. I’m the guy everyone wanted to dance with,” said Reigns. “It didn’t matter who it was. They’re trying to stop history from happening — taking us off the pinnacle — so it was the same task in hand for me.”

The situation unfolded after Cody Rhodes won the 2024 men’s Royal Rumble but initially announced he would not challenge Reigns for the WWE Championship at WrestleMania 40. This led to speculation that The Rock would step into that role. However, fan pushback caused Rhodes to reverse his stance, turning The Rock heel as “The Final Boss” and leading to an alliance between Reigns and The Rock. The duo defeated Rhodes and Seth Rollins in the Night 1 main event, before Rhodes won the WWE title from Reigns on Night 2. Looking ahead, Reigns hinted at the potential for a future match against The Rock, provided the WWE fanbase strongly supports the idea. “If that’s what the people want and The People’s Champ is down, I’m sure we can make something happen,” Reigns noted.

The Rock recently made an unannounced WWE return at Bad Blood but has remained silent on his intentions since. With the upcoming WarGames match at Survivor Series featuring the new and original Bloodline factions, The Rock’s reappearance could set the stage for a significant storyline with his cousin Roman Reigns.

Tommy Fury Teases Possible WWE Career Following UK Visit

British boxer Tommy Fury, younger brother of former world heavyweight champ Tyson Fury, hinted at exploring WWE as a future career path. Posting a YouTube video from his backstage visit during WWE’s UK tour, Fury expressed enthusiasm about the experience and meeting WWE superstars including Randy Orton, Cody Rhodes, and Gunther.

“So guys, that is a night at the WWE complete… I look forward to possibly climbing through those ropes one day. Who knows?” Fury said.

Tommy Fury is undefeated in professional boxing and notably handed Jake Paul his first loss. With his connection to the Paul family and his growing profile, a WWE run could position him as a natural opponent or ally for Logan Paul, an active WWE Superstar. His brother Tyson Fury previously appeared at WWE events, including a match at Crown Jewel 2019 and a notable crowd-side knockout of Austin Theory at Clash at the Castle 2022. WWE could find interest in Tommy Fury as a fresh crossover star, potentially capitalizing on mainstream attention through a “Paul brothers vs. Fury brothers” storyline in the future.

NXT’s Oba Femi Absent From Recent Tapings Amid Uncertainty

Reports indicate that former NXT North American Champion Oba Femi has been noticeably absent from NXT television and tapings in recent weeks. According to Fightful Select, there has been no sign of Femi since his loss to Tony D’Angelo at Halloween Havoc on October 27. Femi, who initially debuted on NXT in April 2023, accumulated considerable momentum by winning the NXT Breakout Tournament and capturing the North American Championship from Dragon Lee. His title reign lasted an impressive 272 days before dropping the belt to D’Angelo, followed by a rematch loss at Halloween Havoc.

While the reason for his absence is unclear, possibilities include needing time to recuperate after his losses, potential injury, or a strategic hiatus by NXT officials. He remains a strong candidate to challenge for the NXT Championship upon his return, possibly targeting the current titleholder Trick Williams.
