WWE Update: Roman Reigns Reflects on WrestleMania 40, Tommy Fury Eyes WWE Career, and Oba Femi’s NXT Absence
Bleacher Report brings you the latest from the WWE Universe, including insights from Roman Reigns, hints from Tommy Fury about a potential wrestling career, and rumors surrounding NXT star Oba Femi.
Roman Reigns on WrestleMania 40 Opponents and Future Matches
In a recent interview on the Sports Illustrated Media podcast, WWE superstar Roman Reigns shared his thoughts on the shifting dynamics of WrestleMania 40’s main event and the possibility of facing his cousin, The Rock, in the future.
Reigns addressed the speculation around his WrestleMania 40 opponent after the event initially teased a showdown with The Rock but eventually moved to a match against Cody Rhodes. Speaking with Sports Illustrated’s Jimmy Traina, Reigns made it clear that the identity of his opponent was secondary to being in the main event spotlight.
"It doesn’t matter to me. I was the main event. I’m the guy that everyone wanted to dance with," Reigns said. "It didn’t matter who it was. They are trying to stop history from happening. They are trying to take us off the pinnacle right now, so it was the same task in hand for me."
During WrestleMania 40 weekend, The Rock and Reigns teamed up to defeat Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins on Night 1, while Rhodes captured the WWE Championship from Reigns on Night 2. While the much-anticipated Reigns vs. The Rock match did not come to fruition, Reigns indicated that such a bout remains possible, contingent on fan interest.
"If that’s what the people want and The People’s Champ is down, I’m sure we can make something happen," Reigns remarked.
The Rock had returned unexpectedly at WWE’s Bad Blood event last month but has yet to clarify his intentions, leaving the door open for future storyline development.
Tommy Fury Shows Interest in WWE
Boxer Tommy Fury, brother of heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, has expressed interest in possibly stepping into the wrestling world with WWE. During a recent visit backstage at a WWE show during the UK tour, Fury shared his enthusiasm for the sport and the company.
"So guys, that is a night at the WWE complete," Fury said in a YouTube video. "All the wrestlers showing love… Big up to Randy Orton. Absolutely amazing guy. Big up to Cody Rhodes, all of them, Gunther, the lot of them. Thank you to the WWE for showing us such appreciation. And I look forward to possibly climbing through them ropes one day. Who knows?"
Tommy Fury’s undefeated boxing record, which includes a win over Jake Paul, coupled with his family ties to WWE through Tyson Fury’s past involvement, creates a natural pathway for a potential crossover. Any future involvement in WWE could generate mainstream interest, possibly leading to intriguing matchups against current WWE talent like Logan Paul.
Oba Femi’s Recent Absence from NXT
Former NXT North American Champion Oba Femi has been notably absent from NXT programming for about a month, according to reports from Fightful Select.
Femi last appeared on WWE television during the Halloween Havoc event on October 27, where he lost a rematch for the North American Championship to Tony D’Angelo, ending a historic 272-day title reign. Femi has not been sighted backstage or featured in tapings since that loss, leading to speculation about his status.
While the reason behind his absence remains unclear, it could be a strategic break to reset after consecutive losses, a possible injury, or even preparation for a main roster call-up. Femi had a remarkable debut in NXT, winning the Breakout Tournament and capturing the North American title early in his televised career.
If and when Femi returns, many expect him to be a contender for the NXT Championship, potentially challenging the current champion, Trick Williams.
