WWE Universe Update: Roman Reigns Discusses The Rock and Cody Rhodes, Tommy Fury Eyes WWE Debut, and Oba Femi’s NXT Absence

Bleacher Report brings you the latest inside scoop from the world of professional wrestling, highlighting intriguing developments involving WWE stars Roman Reigns, Tommy Fury, and NXT talent Oba Femi.

Roman Reigns Reflects on WrestleMania 40, The Rock, and Cody Rhodes

Roman Reigns recently opened up in a candid interview on the SI Media podcast with Jimmy Traina about the shifting dynamics of the WrestleMania 40 main event. Initially, the WWE universe was buzzing with anticipation over a potential showdown between Reigns and The Rock. However, plans appeared to pivot to a matchup featuring Reigns versus Cody Rhodes after Rhodes secured victory in the 2024 men’s Royal Rumble.

When asked if he was disappointed about facing Rhodes instead of The Rock, Reigns calmly stated that the opponent did not matter so long as he was the main event’s center of attention.

"It doesn’t matter to me. I was the main event. I’m the guy that everyone wanted to dance with, you know. I am the hot chick, everyone wanted to take me out," Reigns said. "They are trying to stop history from happening. They are trying to take us off the pinnacle right now, so it was the same task in hand for me."

Fans were initially confused when Rhodes declared he would not challenge Reigns for the WWE Championship at WrestleMania 40, seemingly paving the way for The Rock’s involvement instead. Yet, in response to negative fan reaction, Rhodes reversed his stance, leading The Rock to turn heel, adopt “The Final Boss” persona, and form an alliance with Reigns. This culminated in The Rock and Reigns teaming up to defeat Rhodes and Seth Rollins in the Night 1 main event at WrestleMania 40. The following night, Rhodes captured the WWE Championship from Reigns.

On the subject of a future Reigns vs. The Rock match, Reigns disclosed it remains a possibility contingent on fan demand.

"If that’s what the people want and The People’s Champ is down, I’m sure we can make something happen," Reigns remarked.

The Rock made a surprise WWE return last month at Bad Blood but has yet to clarify his plans or reappear since. With the ongoing conflict between the original and new Bloodline factions set to clash in a WarGames match at Survivor Series, speculation swirls that The Rock might intervene once again, potentially setting the stage for a blockbuster encounter with his cousin.

Boxer Tommy Fury Considers Pro Wrestling Path with WWE

Tommy Fury, a professional boxer with an undefeated 10-0 record, recently hinted at the possibility of joining WWE. The younger brother of heavyweight boxing champion Tyson Fury posted a backstage video from WWE’s UK tour, expressing gratitude toward WWE Superstars like Randy Orton, Cody Rhodes, and Gunther.

"Thank you to the WWE for showing us such appreciation. And I look forward to possibly climbing through them ropes one day. Who knows?" Tommy said.

Tyson Fury previously dabbled in WWE with a match at Crown Jewel 2019 and an infamous moment at WWE Clash at the Castle 2022 where he took out Austin Theory in the crowd. Tommy’s close ties to the Paul family—famous for their own wrestling ties—and the fact that he defeated Jake Paul in the ring, make him a compelling candidate to take on Logan Paul, an established WWE Superstar.

A potential tag team clash pitting the Fury brothers against the Paul brothers could well generate significant mainstream interest, suggesting WWE brass ought to consider a future role for Tommy Fury.

NXT Star Oba Femi’s Absence Raises Questions

Oba Femi, former NXT North American Champion known for his dominant run including winning the NXT Breakout Tournament and holding the title for a record 272 days, has been notably absent from NXT tapings since his loss to Tony D’Angelo on October 27 at Halloween Havoc.

Fightful Select reports no backstage activity or announcements involving Femi in recent weeks. The reasons remain unclear; possibilities include an injury, a strategic creative pause following two consecutive losses to D’Angelo, or preparations for a main roster call-up.

Since debuting on television in April 2023, Femi impressed fans with his rapid ascent and powerful performances. If he returns, he is expected to be a serious contender to challenge for the NXT Championship, potentially positioning him as the next rival for champion Trick Williams.

Looking Ahead

As the WWE Universe eagerly awaits fresh storylines and matchups, Roman Reigns’s openness to future clashes, Tommy Fury’s expressed ambitions, and Oba Femi’s mysterious NXT absence create exciting developments to watch. Fans can stay tuned for evolving narratives as these personalities shape the landscape of WWE and NXT in the coming months.
