Roman Reigns Talks The Rock, Cody Rhodes; Tommy Fury Eyes WWE; NXT Updates on Oba Femi

Bleacher Report provides the latest updates from the WWE Universe, including insights from Roman Reigns on WrestleMania 40 matchups, Tommy Fury’s potential WWE future, and rumors surrounding former NXT North American Champion Oba Femi.

Roman Reigns Reflects on WrestleMania 40, Possible Match with The Rock

In a recent interview on the SI Media podcast with Jimmy Traina, WWE superstar Roman Reigns opened up about his WrestleMania 40 experience, particularly regarding his main event opponents — Cody Rhodes and The Rock.

Reigns discussed the switch in his WrestleMania 40 main event plans. Initially, it seemed he would face The Rock, WWE’s legendary “People’s Champion,” but eventually, Cody Rhodes stepped into the spotlight. When asked if he was disappointed about not going against The Rock, Reigns made it clear that being in the main event was what mattered most.

"It doesn’t matter to me. I was the main event. I’m the guy that everyone wanted to dance with… it didn’t matter who it was. They are trying to stop history from happening. It was the same task in hand for me," Reigns said.

The backstory: After Rhodes won the 2024 Royal Rumble, he initially declared he wouldn’t challenge Reigns for the WWE Championship at WrestleMania 40, seemingly paving the way for The Rock. However, fan outrage led to Rhodes reversing that decision. This shift turned The Rock heel, branding himself “The Final Boss” and teaming up with Reigns. Together, they defeated Rhodes and Seth Rollins on Night 1 of WrestleMania 40, with Rhodes ultimately capturing the WWE title from Reigns on Night 2. Looking ahead, the long-anticipated match between Reigns and The Rock remains a possibility. Reigns emphasized the importance of fan interest:

"If that’s what the people want and The People’s Champ is down, I’m sure we can make something happen."

The Rock made a surprise WWE appearance at Bad Blood last month but has not yet revealed his plans. With the Bloodline factions set for a WarGames match at Survivor Series, speculation grows on whether The Rock might reengage with WWE programming and potentially set up a future clash with Reigns.

Boxer Tommy Fury Shows Interest in WWE

British boxer Tommy Fury, younger brother of former world heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, hinted at exploring professional wrestling, possibly with WWE.

Recently backstage during WWE’s UK tour, Fury posted a video on YouTube expressing his appreciation for the WWE roster and the experience. He praised stars like Randy Orton, Cody Rhodes, and Gunther while leaving the door open for a pro wrestling future:

"I look forward to possibly climbing through those ropes one day. Who knows?"

Tommy, 25, boasts an undefeated boxing record and is the only fighter to have defeated social media star Jake Paul. His familiarity with the Paul family, combined with his growing name in boxing, could position him as a compelling WWE addition, potentially setting up a rivalry or partnership with Logan Paul, who is an active WWE Superstar.

Tommy’s brother Tyson has had a notable, albeit limited WWE involvement, including a win over Braun Strowman at Crown Jewel 2019 and a memorable run-in at Clash at the Castle 2022. —

NXT Star Oba Femi Absent From Tapings Following Losses

Oba Femi, former NXT North American Champion, has been noticeably absent from recent NXT tapings for over a month. This follows his loss at Halloween Havoc on October 27 to Tony D’Angelo, where he dropped the title after a record 272-day reign.

According to Fightful Select reports, Femi has not been backstage or on NXT television since that loss and subsequent rematch defeat to D’Angelo. The reasons remain unclear — it could be injury-related, a creative reset, or preparation for a main roster call-up.

Since debuting on NXT in April 2023, Femi made significant strides, winning the NXT Breakout Tournament and capturing a major championship. If and when he returns, many speculate he will be a top contender for the NXT Championship, possibly challenging leader Trick Williams.
