Revolutionizing Indonesia’s Economy: The Launch of the Indonesia Blockchain Center at ITS

ITS Inaugurates Indonesia Blockchain Center to Boost National Economy

Surabaya, January 24, 2025 – Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) has taken a significant step in contributing to Indonesia’s economic growth with the inauguration of the Indonesia Blockchain Center (IBC) ITS Chapter. This landmark event occurred on December 19, 2024, reaffirming ITS’s commitment as a leader in technology, research, and education.

The establishment of the IBC represents the first blockchain research center branch in Indonesia, receiving direct support from the prestigious Dubai Blockchain Center. This collaboration underscores the strategic importance of blockchain technology as a tool for enhancing national economic dynamics.

Expert Insights on Blockchain’s Economic Potential

Dr. Arman Hakim Nasution, Head of the ITS Center for Business and Industrial Public Policy Studies (PKKPBI), articulated the center’s role in fostering a robust blockchain ecosystem in the country. He emphasized that blockchain technology, recognized for its secure and transparent digital data storage capabilities, is pivotal, alongside artificial intelligence and semiconductors, for Indonesia’s progress in a globally competitive landscape.

“Using blockchain technology across 12 different sectors has shown effective results in boosting economic performance, as evidenced by successes seen in Dubai,” Dr. Arman stated. He highlighted sectors including energy, supply chains, education, urban development, and healthcare as areas poised for significant benefit from blockchain implementation. With the IBC’s inception, he expressed optimism that Indonesia could achieve an eight percent increase in economic growth.

Ensuring Security and Integrity

Notably, the IBC will leverage top-tier security measures inherent in blockchain technology. Dr. Arman elaborated on the blockchain’s strength, explaining that it creates a "long security chain" through decentralized key management, thus enhancing data integrity and fraud prevention.

Collaboration with PT Digital Syariah Teknologi

The center’s initiatives extend beyond blockchain research into the realm of education, thanks to a strategic partnership with PT Digital Syariah Teknologi. This collaboration is designed to elevate educational standards in Indonesia, with ITS academics stepping up as pioneers in database system security.

The facility will also provide enhanced training and internship opportunities within the ITS Business Management Department. Dr. Arman indicated that this initiative aims to arm ITS graduates with necessary technological skills and encourage literacy in blockchain technology, further elevating Indonesia’s academic standing on an international scale.

Fostering Future Innovations

As the IBC moves forward, it remains dedicated to nurturing blockchain development and continuous learning. The optimism from the center’s founders about empowering students through advanced technology knowledge is palpable.

In his closing remarks at the inauguration, ITS Rector, Prof. Ir. Bambang Pramujati, emphasized the importance of such initiatives in aligning education with industry needs, marking a critical step towards fostering a future-ready workforce in Indonesia.

The launch of the Indonesia Blockchain Center (IBC) at ITS not only marks a transformative milestone for the institution but also lays the groundwork for innovative advancements within Indonesia’s economy—paving the way for a more technologically empowered society.
