Firefighters Contain Blaze at Crypto.com Arena
Los Angeles, CA โ Firefighters swiftly battled a fire at the Crypto.com Arena in downtown Los Angeles on Saturday afternoon, aimed at safeguarding a venue known for hosting major sporting events and concerts.
Incident Details
The Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) received a report at approximately 4:15 p.m. of moderate smoke emanating from a storage room on the arenaโs first floor, which triggered the activation of fire sprinklers on both the first and second floors. The arena is located in the 1000 block of S. Figueroa Street, near 12th Street.
Upon arrival, crews noted significant smoke and quickly began efforts to locate and alleviate the source of the issue. In a statement, LAFD indicated that firefighters observed a "significant decrease in visible smoke" during their operations. They confirmed that there was no visible, active fire.
After a thorough investigation, the firefighters identified the source of the smoke as originating from the ducting system between Sub Level 1 and the first floor of the arena.
Continuing Efforts
Firefighters remained on the scene to conduct a water removal operation. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and the fire department is continuing to investigate the cause of the incident.
The Crypto.com Arena, formerly known as Staples Center, is the home of the Los Angeles Lakers, Sparks, and Kings. It also hosts various concerts and events throughout the year. Notably, there were no scheduled events at the arena on the day of the incident.
