Roman Reigns Discusses The Rock and Cody Rhodes, Tommy Fury Eyes WWE Future, Oba Femi Absent from NXT
By Mike Chiari | November 27, 2024 | Bleacher Report
Bleacher Report brings you the latest stories from the WWE Universe, highlighting key insights from Roman Reigns about his WrestleMania 40 opponents, Tommy Fury’s announced interest in joining WWE, and recent NXT developments concerning Oba Femi.
Roman Reigns Reflects on WrestleMania 40 Main Event and Possible Rock Match
Roman Reigns recently appeared on the SI Media podcast hosted by Jimmy Traina, where he opened up about his WrestleMania 40 experience and addressed speculation about future matches involving The Rock.
During the interview, Reigns spoke candidly about the uncertainty leading up to WrestleMania 40 regarding whether he would face Cody Rhodes or The Rock in the main event. Despite the back-and-forth, Reigns made clear that his focus was always on being in the main event, regardless of the opponent.
“It doesn’t matter to me. I was the main event. I’m the guy that everyone wanted to dance with, you know. I am the hot chick, everyone wanted to take me out. It’s where, we just need to get there and defend this thing. It didn’t matter who it is. They are trying to stop history from happening,” Reigns said.
Initially, after Rhodes won the 2024 men’s Royal Rumble, he announced that he would not challenge Reigns for the WWE Championship at WrestleMania, which pushed The Rock into the spotlight as the likely challenger. Fan backlash, however, prompted Rhodes to reconsider, leading to The Rock turning heel as "The Final Boss" and aligning with Reigns.
At WrestleMania 40, The Rock and Reigns teamed up to defeat Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins on Night 1. Night 2 saw Rhodes capture the WWE Championship from Reigns in the main event.
Regarding a potential one-on-one between The Rock and himself in the future, Reigns stated it could happen if fans make clear their desire:
“If that’s what the people want and The People’s Champ is down, I’m sure we can make something happen.”
The Rock made an unannounced return at the Bad Blood event last month but has been absent since. With the upcoming WarGames match at Survivor Series between the new and original Bloodline factions, speculation is high that The Rock could reappear, potentially reigniting a family feud and building toward a match with his cousin, Reigns.
Tommy Fury Hints at WWE Career
British professional boxer Tommy Fury has teased the possibility of pursuing a career in professional wrestling with WWE. In a recent YouTube video filmed backstage during a WWE UK tour, Fury showcased his interactions with several WWE Superstars, including Randy Orton, Cody Rhodes, and Gunther.
“Thank you to the WWE for showing us such appreciation. And I look forward to possibly climbing through them ropes one day. Who knows? But it’s been a great night,” Fury stated.
The 25-year-old is the younger brother of Tyson Fury, a former world heavyweight boxing champion who had a brief WWE appearance at Crown Jewel 2019. Tommy Fury has established his own boxing credentials with a perfect 10-0 record and a notable victory over Jake Paul, which adds to his crossover appeal.
Given Tommy’s connections to the Paul family, and with Logan Paul currently active in WWE, a potential feud or even tag team involvement between the Fury and Paul brothers is a storyline that WWE could explore to attract mainstream attention.
Oba Femi Absent From NXT Following Recent Losses
Reports from Fightful Select reveal that Oba Femi, former NXT North American Champion, has been noticeably absent from recent NXT tapings for nearly a month. His last televised appearance was at NXT Halloween Havoc on October 27, where he lost a title rematch against Tony D’Angelo.
Femi’s reason for absence remains unclear, but it may be a strategic decision by NXT management to allow him time to reset after back-to-back losses or possibly to recover from injury.
Since debuting in April 2023, Femi garnered acclaim by winning the NXT Breakout Tournament and capturing the North American Championship from Dragon Lee. He held the title for a record 272 days before D’Angelo’s victory.
If and when Femi returns, he is expected to be a strong contender for the NXT Championship and could be a key player in dethroning current champion Trick Williams.
