Roman Reigns Comments on The Rock and Cody Rhodes, Tommy Fury Hints at WWE Future, and Oba Femi’s NXT Absence Sparks Rumors

Bleacher Report recently caught up with several intriguing updates from the WWE Universe, involving top superstar Roman Reigns, boxer-turned-possible-WWE-star Tommy Fury, and NXT standout Oba Femi. Here’s a detailed look at the latest news and speculation surrounding these names.

Roman Reigns Reflects on WrestleMania 40 Opponents and Potential Rock Showdown

In a recent interview on the Sports Illustrated podcast with Jimmy Traina, WWE’s “Tribal Chief” Roman Reigns opened up about his WrestleMania 40 experience and his thoughts on facing Cody Rhodes instead of WWE legend The Rock in the event’s main event. When asked if he was disappointed about Rhodes replacing The Rock, Reigns said it didn’t matter to him as long as he was the central figure.

“I was the main event. I’m the guy that everyone wanted to dance with,” Reigns explained. “It didn’t matter who it was. They are trying to stop history from happening. The task was the same—defend this thing.”

This exchange followed the complicated lead-up to WrestleMania 40, where Rhodes initially won the 2024 Royal Rumble but declined to challenge Reigns for the WWE Championship, essentially paving the way for The Rock to challenge instead. However, fan backlash led Rhodes to reverse course, setting up The Rock’s heel turn as “The Final Boss” and his alignment with Reigns. The Rock and Reigns teamed up to defeat Rhodes and Seth Rollins on Night 1 of WrestleMania 40, only for Rhodes to win the WWE title from Reigns in the main event of Night 2. Looking ahead, Traina inquired about the possibility of a future singles match pitting Reigns against The Rock. Reigns indicated that it remains a possibility if the fans show strong enthusiasm for such a showdown.

“If that’s what the people want and The People’s Champ is down, I’m sure we can make something happen,” he said.

The Rock made an unannounced WWE return last month at the Bad Blood event but did not clarify any future plans and has since been absent from programming. With the upcoming Survivor Series featuring a WarGames match between the new and original Bloodline factions, speculation is mounting that The Rock might return again to build toward a future clash with his cousin Roman Reigns.

Tommy Fury Hints at Wrestling Career with WWE After UK Tour Visit

British professional boxer Tommy Fury surprised fans this week by teasing a potential career in professional wrestling, possibly with WWE. Fury, younger brother of heavyweight boxing champion Tyson Fury, shared footage on YouTube from backstage at a recent WWE event during the company’s United Kingdom tour.

In the video, Fury expressed his appreciation for the WWE wrestlers and hinted at a future inside the squared circle: “I look forward to possibly climbing through them ropes one day. Who knows?”

Fury met WWE superstars including Randy Orton, Cody Rhodes, and Gunther during his visit, praising their hospitality. At 25 years old and undefeated in his professional boxing career, Tommy has already made a name for himself with a 10-0 record and is notably the only boxer to beat Jake Paul, a figure who also has ties to WWE.

Given Tommy Fury’s relationship with the Paul family and WWE’s interest in crossover star power, a future WWE run could open doors for high-profile matches, possibly even clashes involving Logan Paul, currently a WWE Superstar and former United States Champion. A “Fury brothers vs. Paul brothers” tag team storyline could attract a broader mainstream audience and seems a natural fit for WWE’s entertainment-driven product.

Oba Femi’s Absence from NXT Programming Raises Questions

Meanwhile, reports have emerged on Oba Femi, the former NXT North American Champion, regarding his absence from recent NXT tapings. According to Fightful Select, Femi has not been seen backstage since his loss to Tony D’Angelo at Halloween Havoc on October 27, leaving his current status unclear.

After debuting in NXT in April 2023, Femi enjoyed a strong run which included winning the NXT Breakout Tournament and capturing the North American Championship by cashing in on Dragon Lee. His title reign lasted a record 272 days before unexpectedly losing the belt to D’Angelo last month. Femi then lost a rematch at Halloween Havoc.

While no official explanation has surfaced, his absence may indicate a break to reset after consecutive losses, a possible injury, or plans for a future promotion to WWE’s main roster. Another theory is that NXT creative wants to give Femi a pause before reintegrating him into television storylines.

If and when he returns, Femi is considered a strong candidate to challenge for the NXT Championship and might be positioned to dethrone current titleholder Trick Williams when the time is right.
