Reigns Talks The Rock, Cody Rhodes; Tommy Fury Eyes WWE Spot; NXT Rumors on Oba Femi

By Mike Chiari, Bleacher Report – November 27, 2024

Bleacher Report brings the latest updates from the WWE Universe, spotlighting key developments involving Roman Reigns, boxing star Tommy Fury’s WWE aspirations, and NXT rising talent Oba Femi.

Roman Reigns Reflects on WrestleMania 40, The Rock & Cody Rhodes

Roman Reigns recently opened up on the SI Media podcast about his thoughts surrounding the WrestleMania 40 main event lineup. Initially, the WWE appeared unsure whether Reigns would face his cousin The Rock or Cody Rhodes for the WWE Championship. Reigns explained that it ultimately didn’t matter to him who his opponent was, as long as he was performing in the main event spotlight.

Reigns told Sports Illustrated’s Jimmy Traina, “It doesn’t matter to me. I was the main event. I’m the guy that everyone wanted to dance with… They’re trying to stop history from happening, trying to take us off the pinnacle. So it was the same task in hand for me.”

Earlier in the year, after winning the 2024 men’s Royal Rumble, Cody Rhodes initially announced he would not challenge Reigns at WrestleMania 40, leading the storyline to suggest The Rock would get that slot. However, following fan backlash, Rhodes reversed course, and The Rock turned heel, becoming “The Final Boss” and aligning himself with Reigns.

At WrestleMania 40, The Rock and Reigns teamed up on Night 1 to defeat Rhodes and Seth Rollins, while Rhodes defeated Reigns in the main event on Night 2 to capture the WWE Championship.

When asked about the possibility of a future Reigns vs. The Rock match, Reigns said it depends largely on fan demand: “If our fans are loud enough and passionate enough… we want to satisfy those people. If that’s what the people want and The People’s Champ is down, I’m sure we can make something happen.”

The Rock made an unannounced return at October’s Bad Blood event but has not yet revealed plans or reappeared regularly since. With a major WarGames match underway at Survivor Series between two iterations of The Bloodline, speculation is building that The Rock could resurface to spark a renewed rivalry with Reigns.

Tommy Fury Hints at WWE Future

Boxer and media personality Tommy Fury is teasing a potential leap into professional wrestling with WWE. On a recent YouTube vlog, Fury shared footage from backstage at a WWE show during its UK tour. He praised WWE stars including Randy Orton, Cody Rhodes, and Gunther and expressed gratitude for the hospitality.

Fury said, “I look forward to possibly climbing through them ropes one day. Who knows? But it’s been a great night.”

Tommy Fury, 25, is the younger brother of former heavyweight boxing champion Tyson Fury, who previously had a one-off WWE match at Crown Jewel 2019 and last appeared physically interfering at Clash at the Castle 2022. Tommy remains an undefeated professional boxer, notable for being the only fighter to have defeated YouTube celebrity-turned-boxer Jake Paul. Given Tommy’s connections to the Paul family and his boxing credentials, WWE fans are intrigued by the prospect of a rivalry or alliance that pits the Fury brothers against the Paul brothers inside the squared circle.

NXT Star Oba Femi Missing from Recent Tapings

There are growing rumors about the current status of Oba Femi, former NXT North American Champion, who has reportedly been absent from NXT tapings for over a month.

According to Fightful Select, Femi has not been backstage since his loss to Tony D’Angelo at the October 27 Halloween Havoc event, where he lost the North American Championship, concluding a record-setting 272-day title reign. He also lost a rematch to D’Angelo at the same event and has not appeared on NXT TV since.

The reasons for Femi’s absence remain unclear. Some speculate the hiatus is a chance to regroup following two significant losses, while others wonder if it signals an upcoming main roster call-up or injury-related break. Given his strong impact since debuting in April 2023 — including winning the NXT Breakout Tournament — Femi remains a prime candidate to chase the NXT Championship in the near future, possibly taking the title from current champion Trick Williams.

Closing Thoughts

With Roman Reigns contemplating potential matches with The Rock, Tommy Fury hinting at a WWE career, and promising NXT talent Oba Femi on an unexpected pause, the WWE landscape remains as dynamic as ever. Fans can expect continued developments as these stories unfold heading toward 2025. —
