BusinessDay Media’s status as a leading business and financial digital news platform in Nigeria has been reaffirmed by the recent independent study “RANKED2025 by SquirrelPR.” This recognition highlights BusinessDay’s continued role as a trusted source of economic insights, market trends, and financial analysis across the country.

The RANKED2025 study, which draws upon 12 months of historical web traffic data from Similarweb, ranked digital news platforms across Nigeria and Africa based on web traffic, audience engagement, and social media influence. The study encompassed 130 digital platforms in various categories, including News & Current Affairs, Business, Technology, and Entertainment.

For the Nigerian market, BusinessDay Media emerged as one of the top-performing business news platforms in terms of web visits, social media interaction, and audience engagement. This performance underscores BusinessDay’s commitment to delivering accurate, timely, and insightful business news tailored for Nigeria’s dynamic economic environment.

Other notable platforms in the top category generating over one million visits annually include Nairametrics, MSME Africa, Marketforces Africa, and Proshare. In broader categories, Vanguard Online and Punch Online lead the News & Current Affairs segment, while platforms such as Techpoint Africa, TechCabal, and Technext dominate the Technology news sphere. The Entertainment category is led by Linda Ikeji Blog, NaijaPals, and Bella Naija, all of which record over one million visits annually.

Expanding beyond Nigeria, the study covered 148 digital media platforms across key African markets, including South Africa, Egypt, Kenya, and Ghana. It identified Egypt’s Youm7 platform as the most visited news website with approximately 450 million annual visits, followed by South Africa’s New24 and Nigeria’s Vanguard and Punch Online. The study revealed that News & Current Affairs platforms attract the majority of digital traffic across African markets, emphasizing the audience’s sustained interest in political, social, and economic news.

The report further highlights the growing influence of specialized niche platforms focused on business, technology, and lifestyle news. These platforms achieve higher engagement rates despite smaller overall audiences, reflecting a reader preference for tailored content such as fintech developments, AI trends, and startup coverage. According to the study, media outlets are encouraged to invest in quality niche reporting to build loyal and engaged audiences.

Strong social media engagement also emerged as a key factor linked to higher digital influence rankings. Platforms actively leveraging cross-platform promotion across Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Instagram tend to outperform those relying solely on traditional website visits, illustrating the evolving nature of digital news consumption.

Since its establishment in 2001, BusinessDay Media has earned a solid reputation for delivering high-quality journalism that influences economic discussions and policymaking while supporting informed business decision-making. As the only Nigerian newspaper with a bureau in Accra, Ghana, BusinessDay continues to leverage digital technology to provide up-to-date financial news, expert analysis, and market insights to its expansive audience.

With the RANKED2025 recognition, BusinessDay Media solidifies its position as a cornerstone in Nigeria’s digital business news landscape and reaffirms its commitment to excellence in journalism and digital innovation.
