Franklin Man Charged with Stealing Millions from George Jones’ Widow
Williamson County, Tenn. — A Franklin man has been arrested for allegedly stealing millions of dollars in cash and cryptocurrency from the estate of Nancy Jones, widow of legendary country music star George Jones. The case has drawn attention for the staggering amount of digital currency involved and the personal betrayal at its core.
The Theft and Arrest
Kirk West, 58, was taken into custody at Nashville International Airport on July 24, just one day after the Franklin Police Department began investigating a theft report filed by Nancy Jones. According to official court documents, West is accused of stealing approximately $400,000 in cash along with a Ledger cryptocurrency wallet from two safes inside Nancy Jones’ Franklin home around June 26, 2025. Nancy Jones reportedly suspected West, her long-time romantic partner, of cheating and contacted her granddaughter to secure valuables in the home. Upon inspection, the granddaughter discovered the cash missing and the cryptocurrency wallet gone. The wallet was found to contain roughly 5,534,307 units of XRP, a digital currency, which at the time was valued at approximately $2.10 per token. This placed the total value of the stolen crypto at more than $11.6 million. As of July 25, 2025, the value of the missing XRP has surged to over $17 million.
West was reportedly the sole person besides Nancy Jones who had the private key to access the wallet. With legal assistance, Nancy Jones managed to recover about 5,051,102 XRP tokens but still lost 483,205, worth nearly $1.5 million at current valuations.
Relationship and Past Fraud Allegations
Nancy Jones and Kirk West met shortly after the passing of George Jones in 2013. Following the death of her husband—who had died in 2013 at age 81—Nancy was in the process of managing her assets. West initially contacted her under the pretense of representing investors interested in buying her Franklin home but eventually built a personal relationship with her, moving into a wing of her house and beginning a romantic relationship later that year.
Court documents reveal that West was financially insolvent during their relationship, and Nancy Jones supported their lifestyle, including paying for vacations and a Mercedes-Benz vehicle for West.
West has a documented criminal history. In 2016, he pleaded guilty to bank fraud, involving falsified documents to obtain loans from Reliant Bank. Nancy Jones even paid his legal fees during those federal proceedings. Despite an agreement for West to pay over $900,000 in restitution for defrauding the bank, he failed to do so. During his house arrest, which took place at Nancy Jones’ residence, West developed expertise in cryptocurrency and convinced her to invest in multiple digital assets, including XRP, DOGE, Ethereum, and others.
Charges and Court Information
Kirk West has been charged with theft over $250,000. His bond was set at $1 million, and he is scheduled to appear in court on October 23, 2025. In a disturbing development following the theft, West allegedly contacted Nancy Jones, stating he would return only $5 million of the stolen cryptocurrency, implying that this was all she would receive.
Legacy of George Jones and Museum Connection
Beyond his personal relationship with Nancy Jones, West also assisted with the opening of the George Jones Museum on Nashville’s Second Avenue in 2015. The museum, which housed memorabilia of the country music legend, later closed in December 2021 after weathering various challenges, including a Christmas Day bombing with minimal damage.
George Jones himself was honored with a statue near the Ryman Auditorium, securing his lasting legacy in Nashville’s music history.
