Country Legend George Jones’s Widow Accuses Ex-Partner of Stealing Millions in Cash and Cryptocurrency
Nashville, TN — Nancy Jones, widow of renowned country music star George Jones, has accused her former longtime romantic partner of stealing millions of dollars in cash and cryptocurrency from her home. The allegations came to light after Kirk West, 58, was arrested at Nashville International Airport on July 24. According to reports from Parade and WKRN, Nancy Jones, 72, filed a police report on July 23 stating that West had taken $400,000 in cash as well as a Ledger cryptocurrency wallet from a safe inside her Franklin, Tennessee residence around June 26. The stolen cryptocurrency’s value is estimated to exceed $11.6 million, according to The Tennessean.
Jones reportedly grew suspicious of West’s actions prior to the theft and had asked him to leave after suspecting he was unfaithful. The discovery of the missing money was made by Jones’s granddaughter. Law enforcement sources noted that Jones and West were the only individuals who knew the safe’s passwords, underscoring the trust she had placed in him.
West has been charged with a Class A felony for the theft. Records indicate West has a prior criminal history, including a guilty plea to bank fraud in a federal case in 2016. It is believed that West met Nancy Jones when she initially put her home on the market following the country legend’s death in 2013. West had expressed interest in purchasing the home, after which Jones allowed him to move in and support him, a court affidavit states.
This incident has brought renewed attention to the challenges faced by surviving partners of famous personalities, particularly regarding financial security and trust. Nancy Jones continues to cooperate with authorities as the investigation unfolds.
