TriHealth and UnitedHealthcare Reach Agreement Hours Before Contract Expiration
CINCINNATI — December 31, 2025
In a move that brings relief to thousands of patients across Greater Cincinnati, TriHealth and insurance giant UnitedHealthcare have reached a new agreement just hours before their contract was set to expire at midnight on December 31. This deal ensures that TriHealth hospitals, outpatient centers, and physicians will remain in-network for UnitedHealthcare members moving forward into the new year.
TriHealth, a Cincinnati-based health system, announced the agreement in a statement emphasizing the importance of maintaining continuity of care for patients insured through UnitedHealthcare’s employer-sponsored, Medicare Advantage, and Medicaid plans. The health network confirmed that the deal guarantees uninterrupted access to TriHealth services for the tens of thousands of UnitedHealthcare members in the region.
“Reaching an agreement and continuing to serve the Greater Cincinnati community’s health care needs has always been TriHealth’s top priority,” said Mark C. Clement, President and CEO of TriHealth. “We understand the times of uncertainty throughout these negotiations were difficult for our patients with UnitedHealthcare coverage, and we are thrilled to put them behind us and focus entirely on improving the health of our patients and community.”
The negotiations had generated concern among local residents, as the prior contract was due to end right before the new year. Without a renewal, patients insured by UnitedHealthcare who sought treatment at TriHealth facilities could have faced sudden and significant increases in healthcare costs or disruptions in care access.
With the deal now secured, patients can continue to access TriHealth’s comprehensive medical services without interruption or unexpected surcharges, providing stability and peace of mind as 2026 begins.
This development marks a positive resolution ahead of the New Year, concluding weeks of negotiations between the major health system and the insurance provider. Both parties expressed commitment to working collaboratively to enhance healthcare delivery and meet the needs of the Cincinnati community moving forward.
This is a developing story. Further updates will be provided as additional details become available.
