By Mike Chiari | Bleacher Report | November 27, 2024

Bleacher Report brings you the latest updates from the world of WWE, spotlighting Roman Reigns’ comments on WrestleMania 40 plans, boxer Tommy Fury’s wrestling ambitions, and recent developments in NXT surrounding Oba Femi.

Roman Reigns Reflects on WrestleMania 40 Main Event and Potential Clash with The Rock

Roman Reigns recently opened up during an interview on the SI Media podcast with Sports Illustrated’s Jimmy Traina about his WrestleMania 40 main event experience and the evolving storyline dynamics involving The Rock and Cody Rhodes.

When asked if he was disappointed to face Cody Rhodes instead of The Rock, Reigns made it clear that the opponent was secondary to the significance of headlining the event. “It doesn’t matter to me. I was the main event. I’m the guy that everyone wanted to dance with, you know,” Reigns stated. “It’s where we just need to get there and defend this thing. It didn’t matter who it was. They are trying to stop history from happening. They are trying to take us off the pinnacle right now, so it was the same task in hand for me.”

The shifting WrestleMania 40 storyline initially had Rhodes winning the 2024 men’s Royal Rumble but declining to challenge Reigns for the WWE Championship, appearing to set The Rock as the challenger. Following fan backlash, Rhodes reversed his decision, leading The Rock to turn heel as “The Final Boss” aligned with Reigns. On Night 1, The Rock and Reigns defeated Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins, before Rhodes captured the WWE Championship from Reigns in the Night 2 main event.

Regarding the prospect of Reigns facing The Rock in the future, he said the possibility hinges on fan demand. “If that’s what the people want and The People’s Champ is down, I’m sure we can make something happen,” he remarked. The Rock made a surprise WWE return at October’s Bad Blood event but has remained largely absent since. With the upcoming Survivor Series featuring a WarGames matchup between the original and newer Bloodline factions, speculation is ripe that The Rock may appear and potentially build toward a future showdown with Reigns.

Tommy Fury Hints at WWE Career After UK Tour Backstage Visit

British boxer Tommy Fury—a 10-0 professional with growing popularity—has signaled interest in embarking on a WWE career following a recent backstage visit during WWE’s UK tour. In a video posted Sunday on his YouTube channel, Fury shared his experience meeting top WWE stars including Randy Orton, Cody Rhodes, and Gunther.

“Big up to Randy Orton. Absolutely amazing guy. Big up to Cody Rhodes, all of them, Gunther, the lot of them,” Fury said. “Thank you to the WWE for showing us such appreciation. And I look forward to possibly climbing through those ropes one day. Who knows? But it’s been a great night.”

Fury’s family ties to WWE are notable: his older brother Tyson Fury competed in a match at WWE Crown Jewel 2019 and has made appearances at recent WWE events. Tommy Fury’s relationship with the Paul family—his past bout with Jake Paul ended in a win—also ties him to Logan Paul, a WWE Superstar. This connection presents intriguing potential for crossover storylines, including a possible Fury brothers vs. Paul brothers rivalry that could captivate both wrestling and mainstream audiences.

NXT Star Oba Femi Absent Amid Uncertainty Following Losses

Former NXT North American Champion Oba Femi has been notably absent from recent NXT tapings, fueling speculation about his current status. Reports confirm that Femi has not appeared since his loss to Tony D’Angelo at Halloween Havoc on October 27. Since debuting on NXT television in April 2023, Femi built considerable momentum by winning the NXT Breakout Tournament and capturing the North American Championship from Dragon Lee, holding the title for an impressive 272 days. However, his recent losses—dropping the title and failing to reclaim it in a rematch—have coincided with his disappearance from programming.

While there is no official word on injury or promotion to WWE’s main roster, insiders suggest Femi’s absence may be a tactical decision to allow time for a “reset” after his setbacks. Upon his return, many believe he will be positioned as a serious contender for the NXT Championship, possibly challenging current titleholder Trick Williams.
