HONOLULU (KHON2) — Hawaiʻi has been identified as one of the most crypto-enthusiastic states in the U.S., according to a recent report analyzing online search trends related to cryptocurrency. The findings highlight the growing fascination and engagement with digital currencies across the islands.
The 2022 study, which scrutinized Google Trends data over a 12-month span, ranked each state by how frequently residents searched for various crypto-related terms online. Hawaiʻi secured the 7th spot nationwide with a combined score of 548, placing it ahead of states like Utah, Massachusetts, and Oregon. Only California, Nevada, New York, New Jersey, and Florida scored higher.
What Hawaiʻi Is Searching For
The ranking was based on seven key search terms: “Crypto,” “Bitcoin,” “Ethereum,” “Dogecoin,” “Cryptocurrency,” “NFT,” and “Coinbase.” Hawaiʻi’s highest interest was in the term “Cryptocurrency,” which scored 97, followed closely by “Bitcoin” at 93 and “Crypto” at 90. The term “Coinbase” received the lowest score at 42. A spokesperson for the report noted, “The crypto world has had its fair share of ups and downs in terms of popularity, often brought on by new inventions like NFTs or other exotic things like Dogecoins capturing public interest.”
