WWE Updates: Roman Reigns on The Rock & Cody Rhodes, Tommy Fury Eyes WWE Future, and Oba Femi’s NXT Absence

Bleacher Report Wrestling News – November 27, 2024

In recent WWE news, Roman Reigns shared candid thoughts on his WrestleMania 40 storyline involving The Rock and Cody Rhodes, while boxer Tommy Fury hinted at a possible WWE career, and NXT star Oba Femi has been notably absent from recent tapings. Here’s a detailed look at these developments in the WWE Universe.

Roman Reigns Reflects on The Rock and Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 40

During an interview on the SI Media podcast with Sports Illustrated’s Jimmy Traina, Roman Reigns spoke openly about the main event decisions at WrestleMania 40, where fans saw an evolving storyline involving himself, The Rock, and Cody Rhodes.

Reigns explained that while fans speculated about a potential matchup with The Rock, he was not bothered by who he faced as long as he was main-eventing the show. “It doesn’t matter to me. I was the main event. I’m the guy that everyone wanted to dance with,” Reigns said. “They are trying to stop history from happening. They are trying to take us off the pinnacle right now, so it was the same task in hand for me.”

Initially, after Rhodes’ victory in the 2024 Men’s Royal Rumble, it appeared that The Rock would be the one challenging Reigns for the WWE Championship at WrestleMania. However, Rhodes reversed his stance after some fan backlash, setting the stage for a storyline twist where The Rock turned heel, adopting the moniker “The Final Boss,” and aligned himself with Reigns. The Rock and Reigns then teamed up and defeated Rhodes and Seth Rollins on Night 1 of WrestleMania 40, before Rhodes reclaimed the WWE Championship by beating Reigns on Night 2. When asked if a match between Reigns and The Rock might still happen in the future, the Tribal Chief said it largely depends on fan interest. “If that’s what the people want and The People’s Champ is down, I’m sure we can make something happen.”

The Rock made a surprise return to WWE last month at Bad Blood but has yet to clarify his next moves. With a high-stakes WarGames match featuring different iterations of The Bloodline scheduled for Survivor Series, speculation continues about a renewed Rock versus Reigns storyline down the line.

Tommy Fury Shows Interest in WWE

British boxer Tommy Fury, younger brother of former world heavyweight boxing champion Tyson Fury, sparked excitement among wrestling fans by hinting he might pursue a career in WWE.

Fury posted a video on YouTube this past weekend showing himself backstage during WWE’s UK tour, expressing enthusiasm for the wrestling industry. “Thank you to the WWE for showing us such appreciation. And I look forward to possibly climbing through them ropes one day. Who knows?” he said.

Tommy Fury, undefeated in his professional boxing career at 10-0 with a notable win over Jake Paul, could potentially cross paths with the Paul brothers in WWE, especially Logan Paul, who currently performs on WWE’s roster. With Tyson Fury previously involved in WWE’s Crown Jewel event and recent high-profile appearances, Tommy’s potential move to wrestling could tap into a growing crossover fanbase.

Oba Femi’s Absence from NXT Raises Questions

Since his loss to Tony D’Angelo at Halloween Havoc on October 27, former NXT North American Champion Oba Femi has not been seen on NXT programming or backstage at tapings, prompting rumors about his status.

Fightful Select reports that Femi has been off WWE’s NXT radar for over a month. Despite no official word, sources suggest this might be a temporary strategy to allow Femi to regroup after dropping the North American Title following a record 272-day reign. He suffered another loss to D’Angelo at Halloween Havoc and has since been absent from television.

Femi’s hiatus could be due to injury, a future main roster call-up, or simply a booking decision to give him time before a potential push toward the NXT Championship. Given his strong showing since debuting in April 2023, including winning the NXT Breakout Tournament, many are eager to see how WWE will reintegrate Femi into storylines.
