WWE Updates: Roman Reigns on The Rock and Cody Rhodes, Tommy Fury Eyes a WWE Future, Oba Femi Absent from NXT
Bleacher Report brings you the latest news and insider updates from the WWE Universe involving some of the biggest names and emerging stars in professional wrestling.
Roman Reigns Reflects on WrestleMania 40 Main Event and Prospects of Facing The Rock
Roman Reigns recently appeared on the SI Media podcast with Sports Illustrated’s Jimmy Traina, where he shared candid thoughts about his WrestleMania 40 main event opponent and potential future matchups.
Reigns addressed the uncertainty and fan speculation that surrounded whether he would face his cousin, The Rock, or Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 40. Despite the back-and-forth, Reigns expressed that the opponent did not matter to him as long as he was in the main event spotlight:
“It doesn’t matter to me. I was the main event. I’m the guy that everyone wanted to dance with… It was the same task in hand for me.”
Initially, after Cody Rhodes secured the 2024 men’s Royal Rumble victory, it was expected he would not challenge Reigns at WrestleMania. This opened the door for The Rock to step into that spot. However, following a mixed fan reaction, Rhodes reversed his decision, eventually leading to The Rock turning heel—adopting the moniker "The Final Boss"—and aligning with Reigns. The two cousins teamed up on Night 1 at WrestleMania 40 to defeat Rhodes and Seth Rollins, while Rhodes claimed the WWE Championship by defeating Reigns on Night 2. Regarding the long-anticipated Rock vs. Reigns showdown that didn’t take place, Reigns indicated that such a match remains possible:
“If that’s what the people want and The People’s Champ is down, I’m sure we can make something happen.”
The Rock made a surprise return at WWE’s Bad Blood event last month but did not clarify his future plans and has not appeared since. With the upcoming WarGames match at Survivor Series between new and original versions of The Bloodline, speculation is rife that The Rock may reemerge and potentially build toward a monumental clash with Reigns.
Tommy Fury Hints at Possible WWE Career Move
Boxer Tommy Fury, younger brother of heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, has sparked excitement by teasing an interest in joining WWE.
In a YouTube video posted following the company’s recent UK tour, Fury shared his experience backstage meeting WWE stars such as Randy Orton, Cody Rhodes, and Gunther. He expressed gratitude and hinted at a future in professional wrestling:
“I look forward to possibly climbing through them ropes one day. Who knows? But it’s been a great night.”
Tommy Fury, currently undefeated at 10-0 in boxing and notable for defeating Jake Paul, could naturally fit into WWE’s narrative, especially considering Logan Paul’s status as a WWE Superstar and former United States champion. A potential feud or tag team involving the Fury brothers and the Paul brothers could attract significant mainstream interest.
Tyson Fury himself had a one-time WWE match at Crown Jewel 2019 and has remained connected with the wrestling world, including a memorable incident at WWE Clash at the Castle in 2022. —
Oba Femi’s Quiet Absence from NXT Sparks Rumors
Former NXT North American Champion Oba Femi has reportedly been away from NXT television and tapings for about a month, according to Fightful Select (via Ringside News).
Since falling to Tony D’Angelo at Halloween Havoc on October 27—losing the North American title after a record 272-day reign—and subsequently losing the rematch, Femi has been noticeably missing. The reasons for his absence are unclear; possibilities include a strategic creative reset, injury, or preparation for a main roster call-up.
Femi, who debuted on NXT television in April 2023 and quickly rose through the ranks by winning the NXT Breakout Tournament, remains a strong contender for future NXT Championship contention. Should he return, many expect him to challenge current champion Trick Williams and continue as a top star in WWE’s developmental brand.
