WWE Updates: Roman Reigns on The Rock and Cody Rhodes, Tommy Fury Eyes WWE, and Oba Femi’s NXT Absence
Bleacher Report brings you the latest news and developments from the WWE universe, including insights from Roman Reigns, potential new talent interest, and intriguing backstage updates from NXT.
Roman Reigns Reflects on WrestleMania 40 Opponents and Future Possibilities
During a recent interview on the SI Media podcast with Sports Illustrated’s Jimmy Traina, WWE’s “Tribal Chief” Roman Reigns shared his perspective on the main event build-up and outcomes of WrestleMania 40, specifically addressing his matches against Cody Rhodes and the potential showdown with The Rock.
Reigns discussed the shifting plans regarding whom he would face at WrestleMania 40. Originally, Rhodes had won the 2024 Royal Rumble and appeared to be set for a title shot at Reigns. However, following fan backlash and storyline twists, The Rock re-entered the picture, aligning with Reigns and turning heel as “The Final Boss.” The Rock and Reigns then teamed to defeat Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins on Night 1 of WrestleMania 40, while Rhodes defeated Reigns for the WWE Championship on Night 2. When asked if he was disappointed not to face The Rock one-on-one at WrestleMania, Reigns emphasized that the main event status was what truly mattered to him:
"It doesn’t matter to me. I was the main event. I’m the guy that everyone wanted to dance with… They are trying to stop history from happening. They are trying to take us off the pinnacle right now, so it was the same task in hand for me."
Regarding the possibility of a future Reigns vs. Rock match, Reigns suggested the potential remains if the fanbase shows enough enthusiasm:
"If that’s what the people want and The People’s Champ is down, I’m sure we can make something happen."
The Rock made an unexpected return at WWE’s Bad Blood event last month but has not yet clarified his intentions within the company. With the upcoming WarGames match at Survivor Series featuring rival Bloodline factions, there is speculation that The Rock may reappear and further a build toward a future clash with his cousin.
Boxer Tommy Fury Hints at WWE Ambitions
Tommy Fury, the undefeated professional boxer and younger brother of Tyson Fury, has hinted at exploring a career in professional wrestling with WWE. On a recent YouTube video, he was seen backstage during WWE’s UK tour interacting with several WWE Superstars, including Randy Orton, Cody Rhodes, and Gunther.
Fury expressed gratitude and excitement over his experience and hinted at future ambitions:
"Thank you to the WWE for showing us such appreciation. And I look forward to possibly climbing through them ropes one day. Who knows? But it’s been a great night."
Tommy Fury has made a name in boxing with a perfect record and holding the unique distinction of defeating Jake Paul. Given his ties to the Paul family and WWE’s history of integrating mainstream personalities, Tommy Fury could be a notable addition to WWE storylines, potentially as a rival for Logan Paul, who is currently an active WWE Superstar.
Oba Femi’s Absence From NXT Raises Questions
NXT fans have noted the recent absence of Oba Femi, the former North American Champion, from WWE’s developmental brand. Since his loss to Tony D’Angelo at Halloween Havoc on October 27, Femi has not been seen at tapings or on television, according to reports from Fightful Select.
Oba Femi debuted on NXT television in April 2023, quickly making an impact by winning the NXT Breakout Tournament and capturing the North American Championship with a record 272-day reign. However, consecutive losses to D’Angelo and his ensuing television absence have sparked speculation.
Possible reasons for Femi’s hiatus could include a creative reset following two significant losses, preparation for a main roster call-up, or an injury that has not been publicly disclosed. Upon his return, Femi is viewed as a strong contender for the NXT Championship, potentially positioned as the next challenger to titleholder Trick Williams.
