WWE Updates: Roman Reigns on The Rock and Cody Rhodes, Tommy Fury Eyes WWE, Oba Femi’s NXT Absence

Bleacher Report brings you the latest insights and rumors from the WWE Universe, including Roman Reigns’ comments on his WrestleMania 40 opponents, potential WWE involvement from boxer Tommy Fury, and recent developments surrounding NXT star Oba Femi.

Roman Reigns Reflects on WrestleMania 40 and Future with The Rock

In a recent interview on the Sports Illustrated Media podcast, Roman Reigns opened up about the main event dynamics at WrestleMania 40 and the ongoing discussions surrounding The Rock and Cody Rhodes.

Reigns was asked about his thoughts on facing Rhodes instead of The Rock, as WWE appeared to oscillate between these booking directions leading up to the event. Reigns emphasized that it didn’t matter to him who he faced as long as he was in the main event spotlight. He remarked:

"It doesn’t matter to me. I was the main event. I’m the guy that everyone wanted to dance with. It was the same task at hand. They were trying to stop history from happening, trying to take us off the pinnacle."

After Cody Rhodes won the 2024 Men’s Royal Rumble, there was initial indication he would not challenge Reigns for the WWE Championship at WrestleMania 40, positioning The Rock as the likely challenger instead. However, negative fan reactions led to a reversal, culminating in The Rock’s character transformation into “The Final Boss” and an alliance with Reigns. Together, they defeated Rhodes and Seth Rollins on Night 1 of WrestleMania 40. On Night 2, Rhodes regained the WWE Championship by defeating Reigns.

When asked whether a future match between The Rock and Reigns could still happen, Reigns was optimistic, stating that such a matchup depends on fan demand:

"If our fans are loud and passionate enough, and The People’s Champ is down, I’m sure we can make something happen."

The Rock made a surprise WWE television appearance last month at Bad Blood but has yet to clarify his future plans. With upcoming storylines such as the Battle of The Bloodline at Survivor Series, WWE fans may see The Rock on WWE programming again soon, potentially setting the stage for a more personal showdown with Reigns.

Tommy Fury Teases Potential WWE Career

British professional boxer Tommy Fury, younger brother of former heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, hinted that he may pursue a career in professional wrestling with WWE. During WWE’s recent UK tour, Fury posted a video from backstage showcasing his interactions with WWE superstars.

Fury expressed gratitude for the warm reception he received and left the door open for wrestling, saying:

"I look forward to possibly climbing through those ropes one day. Who knows? But it’s been a great night."

Tommy, who holds an undefeated 10-0 professional boxing record and notably defeated Jake Paul, has built a name for himself independently of his famous brother Tyson, who wrestled once in WWE at Crown Jewel 2019. The Fury family’s established connection to WWE and Tommy’s ties to the Paul family—given Logan Paul’s current WWE involvement—could lead to intriguing matchups, including potential cross-family rivalries.

WWE is known for courting mainstream attention, and a Paul brothers versus Fury brothers storyline could engage broader audiences.

Oba Femi’s NXT Absence Sparks Speculation

Oba Femi, the former NXT North American Champion and winner of the NXT Breakout Tournament, has reportedly been absent from NXT tapings for the past month. His last televised appearance was at the Halloween Havoc event on October 27, 2024, where he lost to Tony D’Angelo and subsequently suffered a rematch defeat.

According to Fightful Select, there has been no word on Femi’s backstage presence since. The reasons for this hiatus are unknown but could include a strategic reset following back-to-back losses, a possible injury, or preparation for a main roster call-up.

Femi enjoyed a dominant run since his NXT debut in April 2023, holding the North American title for a record 272 days before his recent losses. When he returns, many wrestling insiders expect him to be positioned as a strong contender for the NXT Championship, potentially challenging current titleholder Trick Williams.
