Roman Reigns Reflects on WrestleMania 40, The Rock, Cody Rhodes; Tommy Fury Eyes WWE; Oba Femi’s NXT Absence Stirs Speculation

In the latest updates from the WWE Universe, Roman Reigns shared his views on WrestleMania 40 main event developments, including his matches against Cody Rhodes and the possibility of facing The Rock in the future. Meanwhile, British boxer Tommy Fury hinted at a potential transition into professional wrestling with WWE. Additionally, former NXT North American Champion Oba Femi’s recent absence from programming has sparked curiosity among fans and insiders.

Roman Reigns on WrestleMania 40: "It Didn’t Matter Who It Is"

During a candid interview on the SI Media podcast with Jimmy Traina, Roman Reigns opened up about the behind-the-scenes uncertainty regarding his WrestleMania 40 main event opponent. Initially, Reigns was set to face either The Rock or Cody Rhodes, with the WWE creative team reportedly vacillating between the two. When asked if he was disappointed that his opponent ended up being Rhodes instead of The Rock, Reigns stated that it made no difference to him.

"I was the main event. I’m the guy that everyone wanted to dance with," Reigns said. "It didn’t matter who it is. They are trying to stop history from happening. They are trying to take us off the pinnacle right now, so it was the same task in hand for me."

The storyline behind the match was complex. After Cody Rhodes won the 2024 men’s Royal Rumble, he initially declared he would not challenge Reigns for the WWE Championship at WrestleMania 40, raising the prospect of The Rock stepping into the title match. Fan backlash led to a reversal, which saw The Rock turn heel—rebranded as “The Final Boss”—and ally with Reigns. The Rock and Reigns then defeated Rhodes and Seth Rollins in the WrestleMania Night 1 main event, while Rhodes defeated Reigns for the WWE Championship on Night 2. Looking ahead, Reigns did not rule out a future showdown with The Rock, saying, "If that’s what the people want and The People’s Champ is down, I’m sure we can make something happen." The Rock made a surprise return at last month’s Bad Blood event, but his intentions remain unclear. With the ongoing Bloodline saga culminating in a WarGames match at Survivor Series, many fans speculate that The Rock could appear again to build momentum toward a dream match with Reigns.

Tommy Fury Expresses Interest in WWE Career

British professional boxer Tommy Fury, the younger brother of former heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, has expressed enthusiasm about a possible future in WWE. In a recent YouTube video filmed backstage during WWE’s UK tour, Fury praised WWE talents like Randy Orton, Cody Rhodes, and Gunther, thanking the company for their hospitality.

"And I look forward to possibly climbing through them ropes one day. Who knows?" Fury said, hinting at a potential wrestling career.

Tommy Fury, 25, boasts an undefeated 10-0 boxing record and is notably the only fighter to have defeated social media star-turned-boxer Jake Paul. Given the existing WWE involvement of the Paul brothers—Logan Paul is currently a WWE Superstar—there is considerable intrigue about a potential wrestling storyline involving the Fury and Paul families. Tyson Fury himself has some WWE experience, having participated in a match at Crown Jewel 2019 and making memorable appearances at WWE events thereafter.

Oba Femi’s Absence from NXT Triggers Speculation

Femi, who burst onto the NXT scene with a strong showing—including winning the NXT Breakout Tournament and capturing the North American Championship—has been conspicuously absent from NXT tapings in the past month. His last televised appearance was a loss to Tony D’Angelo at Halloween Havoc on October 27, where he lost the North American title after a record 272-day reign. He also lost a rematch against D’Angelo at the same event.

Fightful Select reports no backstage sightings of Femi at recent NXT events, leading to speculation about the reasons. It could be a strategic decision by WWE to allow Femi to recover from the psychological impact of two defeats, a sign he might be preparing for a main roster call-up, or potentially due to injury.

If he returns soon, Femi is widely regarded as a strong contender to challenge for the NXT Championship.

What’s Next for WWE?

The professional wrestling landscape remains dynamic, with Reigns’ willingness to meet fan demands signaling future mega-match possibilities, Fury’s potential crossover adding mainstream appeal, and key NXT talents like Femi poised for next-level pushes. As the WWE Universe anticipates upcoming events like Survivor Series and the unfolding Bloodline saga, these storylines are sure to keep fans engaged.

Stay tuned for more updates on these and other WWE developments.
