WWE Update: Roman Reigns Reflects on WrestleMania 40, Tommy Fury Eyes WWE Future, and Oba Femi’s NXT Absence
Wrestling fans have plenty to talk about following recent developments in WWE. From Roman Reigns’ candid thoughts about WrestleMania 40 and his connection with The Rock and Cody Rhodes, to boxer Tommy Fury hinting at a possible pro wrestling career, and rising star Oba Femi’s mysterious NXT absence, here’s a breakdown of the latest in the WWE Universe.
Roman Reigns on WrestleMania 40: The Rock, Cody Rhodes, and Future Possibilities
In a recent interview on the SI Media podcast with Sports Illustrated’s Jimmy Traina, Roman Reigns opened up about the highly anticipated WrestleMania 40 main event scene, particularly his involvement with The Rock and Cody Rhodes.
When asked whether he was disappointed to face Cody Rhodes instead of his cousin The Rock, Reigns said it didn’t matter who he faced as long as he was in the spotlight:
“It doesn’t matter to me. I was the main event. I’m the guy that everyone wanted to dance with, you know. I am the hot chick, everyone wanted to take me out. It’s where, we just need to get there and defend this thing.”
Reigns highlighted that his mission was clear—defend his championship and continue his dominant reign regardless of the opponent. The build-up to WrestleMania 40 went through several changes. After Rhodes won the 2024 Royal Rumble, he initially stated he wouldn’t challenge Reigns for the WWE Championship at WrestleMania, paving the way for The Rock as a possible challenger. Fan backlash, however, led to Rhodes reversing his decision, The Rock turning heel as "The Final Boss," and consequently teaming with Reigns. The duo defeated Rhodes and Seth Rollins on Night 1 of WrestleMania 40, but Rhodes prevailed against Reigns on Night 2 to claim the WWE title.
Looking ahead, Reigns did not rule out a future match against The Rock if fans demanded it:
“If that’s what the people want and The People’s Champ is down, I’m sure we can make something happen.”
The Rock made an unannounced appearance at last month’s Bad Blood event but has remained quiet on his intentions since then. With the upcoming WarGames match at Survivor Series involving the Bloodline factions, speculation is ripe that The Rock could again surface, possibly setting up a long-awaited showdown with Reigns.
Tommy Fury Shows Interest in WWE
Boxer and media personality Tommy Fury teased a potential future in professional wrestling this week during a backstage visit to a WWE event in the UK. In a YouTube video posted Sunday, Fury expressed admiration for WWE Superstars including Randy Orton, Cody Rhodes, and Gunther and thanked WWE for the experience:
“I look forward to possibly climbing through those ropes one day. Who knows? But it’s been a great night.”
The 25-year-old son of former heavyweight champion John Fury and younger brother to Tyson Fury, who previously had a brief WWE stint, seems open to exploring wrestling. Tommy Fury currently boasts an undefeated professional boxing record and notably defeated Jake Paul in the ring. His connections to the Paul family and rising profile could make him an intriguing figure for WWE, especially as a possible rival or tag partner to Logan Paul, who is actively competing in WWE.
Oba Femi’s NXT Absence Sparks Rumors
Former NXT North American Champion Oba Femi has not been seen on NXT TV or backstage for over a month, fueling speculation about his status. Reports from Fightful Select indicate that Femi has been absent since his loss to Tony D’Angelo at the October 27 Halloween Havoc event.
Femi burst onto the scene quickly after his April 2023 NXT debut, winning the NXT Breakout Tournament and capturing the North American Championship from Dragon Lee, holding the title for a record 272 days before dropping it last month. He also lost a rematch to D’Angelo at Halloween Havoc.
His current absence could be for multiple reasons, including injury, a planned main roster call-up, or simply a strategic break to reset after back-to-back losses. When he returns, many view him as a strong contender for the NXT Championship, possibly positioned to challenge current titleholder Trick Williams.
