Roman Reigns Reflects on WrestleMania 40, Discusses The Rock and Cody Rhodes; Tommy Fury Eyes WWE; Oba Femi Absent from NXT
Bleacher Report provides the latest insights and rumors from the WWE Universe, covering Roman Reigns’ recent comments on WrestleMania 40, boxing star Tommy Fury’s potential WWE ambitions, and updates on NXT’s Oba Femi.
Roman Reigns Talks WrestleMania 40 Opponents and The Rock Match Possibility
In a candid interview on the Sports Illustrated Media podcast with Jimmy Traina, WWE superstar Roman Reigns spoke openly about his experience headlining WrestleMania 40 and the evolving storyline involving The Rock and Cody Rhodes.
When asked if he was disappointed about facing Cody Rhodes instead of The Rock in the main event, Reigns emphasized that the spotlight mattered more than the opponent:
“It doesn’t matter to me. I was the main event. I’m the guy that everyone wanted to dance with. They are trying to stop history from happening, trying to take us off the pinnacle… it was the same task in hand for me.”
Originally, following Rhodes’ victory in the 2024 men’s Royal Rumble, it was unclear if he would challenge Reigns at WrestleMania, leading to speculation that The Rock might return for the title bout. However, fan backlash caused a storyline shift, with Rhodes reversing course and The Rock turning heel — dubbed The Final Boss — aligning himself with Reigns.
The two cousins teamed up to defeat Rhodes and Seth Rollins on Night 1 of WrestleMania 40, with Rhodes capturing the WWE Championship from Reigns on Night 2. Regarding a possible future match against The Rock, Reigns hinted that such a dream matchup could still occur if WWE’s loyal fanbase continues to demand it:
“If that’s what the people want and The People’s Champ is down, I’m sure we can make something happen.”
The Rock made a surprise WWE return at last month’s Bad Blood event but has not appeared since. With Survivor Series featuring a WarGames match involving The Bloodline factions, speculation is rife that The Rock could reemerge, building toward a potential Reigns showdown.
Tommy Fury Suggests He May Enter WWE
British professional boxer Tommy Fury, younger brother of former heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, recently hinted at a potential wrestling career with WWE. Posting a YouTube video backstage at a WWE UK show, Fury shared his excitement about the possibility:
“Thank you to the WWE for showing us such appreciation. And I look forward to possibly climbing through them ropes one day. Who knows? But it’s been a great night.”
Tommy Fury, undefeated in his 10 professional boxing matches and known as the only boxer to beat Jake Paul, has ties to the Paul family through his brother’s rivalry with Logan Paul — now a WWE Superstar. This connection could pave the way for high-profile matchups or even tag team scenarios involving the Fury and Paul brothers, potentially attracting broader interest from mainstream sports and entertainment fans.
Oba Femi’s Absence from NXT Raises Questions
Former NXT North American Champion Oba Femi has been notably absent from NXT programming and tapings since his loss to Tony D’Angelo at Halloween Havoc on October 27, according to reports from Fightful Select.
Femi, who debuted on NXT television in April 2023, made an immediate impact winning the NXT Breakout Tournament and capturing the North American title from Dragon Lee. His title reign lasted an impressive 272 days before losing it to D’Angelo.
The reasons for Femi’s absence remain unclear—whether it is to recover from injury, take a storyline breather after back-to-back losses, or prepare for a main roster call-up. Should he return soon, many expect him to be a strong contender for the NXT Championship, possibly targeting current champion Trick Williams.
