Roman Reigns Discusses The Rock, Cody Rhodes; Tommy Fury Eyes WWE Debut; Oba Femi Absent From NXT
Bleacher Report dives into the latest buzz from the WWE Universe, highlighting Roman Reigns’ reflections on WrestleMania 40, emerging WWE hopeful Tommy Fury, and NXT star Oba Femi’s recent absence.
Roman Reigns Talks WrestleMania 40 and The Rock Match Potential
In a revealing interview on the SI Media podcast with Sports Illustrated’s Jimmy Traina, WWE superstar Roman Reigns shared his thoughts about his WrestleMania 40 main event experience involving Cody Rhodes and The Rock.
When asked if he was disappointed facing Rhodes instead of The Rock, Reigns said the specific opponent did not matter as long as he was in the main event spotlight.
“It doesn’t matter to me. I was the main event. I’m the guy that everyone wanted to dance with… It didn’t matter who it is. They are trying to stop history from happening. They are trying to take us off the pinnacle right now, so it was the same task in hand for me,” Reigns said.
Rhodes won the 2024 men’s Royal Rumble and initially claimed he wouldn’t challenge Reigns for the WWE Championship at WrestleMania 40, which appeared to pave the way for The Rock to step in. However, fan backlash led Rhodes to reverse his stance, and The Rock turned heel as "The Final Boss," aligning with Reigns.
The Rock and Reigns teamed up to defeat Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins on Night 1 of WrestleMania 40. The following night, Rhodes claimed the WWE title from Reigns in the main event.
With the highly anticipated Rock vs. Reigns dream match missing from the event, host Traina inquired about its future possibility. Reigns acknowledged it remains an option if the fans make their voices heard.
“If that’s what the people want and The People’s Champ is down, I’m sure we can make something happen,” Reigns said.
The Rock made a surprise WWE appearance last month at Bad Blood but didn’t disclose his plans and has remained absent from programming since. With the upcoming WarGames match at Survivor Series featuring The Bloodline factions, many speculate this could be an occasion for The Rock to return, potentially setting up a future showdown against his cousin, Reigns.
Tommy Fury Teases WWE Interest
British boxer Tommy Fury recently hinted he may explore opportunities in professional wrestling with WWE. In a YouTube video shared Sunday, Fury was seen backstage at a WWE UK tour event, mingling with several WWE Superstars including Randy Orton, Cody Rhodes, and Gunther.
“I look forward to possibly climbing through those ropes one day. Who knows? But it’s been a great night,” Fury remarked.
Fury, 25, is the younger brother of former world heavyweight boxing champion Tyson Fury, who had a notable WWE moment when he defeated Braun Strowman by count-out at Crown Jewel 2019. Tyson’s memorable WWE involvement also included disrupting Austin Theory’s Money in the Bank cash-in attempt in 2022. Tommy Fury remains undefeated in his own boxing career and is notably the only fighter to knock out Jake Paul. Given his connections to the Paul family and Logan Paul’s WWE presence, a future WWE feud or tag team involving the Fury and Paul brothers could draw mainstream interest.
Oba Femi’s Recent Absence From NXT Sparks Speculation
Oba Femi, former NXT North American Champion, has not appeared at NXT tapings in over a month, stirring rumors about his status.
Fightful Select reports that since Femi’s loss to Tony D’Angelo at Halloween Havoc on October 27, there have been no signs of him backstage or on television. The reasons remain unclear, but it might be a strategic pause following his consecutive defeats.
Since debuting on NXT in April 2023, Femi quickly made a name for himself by winning the Breakout Tournament and capturing the North American Championship from Dragon Lee. He held the title for a record 272 days before D’Angelo ended his reign last month.
Femi also lost the title rematch at Halloween Havoc and has since been absent from episodes.
The hiatus could suggest several possibilities: a main roster call-up, injury recovery, or a planned break to recalibrate his character. Once he returns, Femi is expected to be a top contender for the NXT Championship, considered a strong asset by WWE officials.
