WWE News Update: Roman Reigns on The Rock and Cody Rhodes, Tommy Fury Eyes WWE, and NXT Rumors Surrounding Oba Femi

By Mike Chiari, Bleacher Report — November 27, 2024

Bleacher Report brings you the latest updates from the WWE universe, highlighting key insights from Roman Reigns, potential WWE interest from boxer Tommy Fury, and notable rumors regarding NXT star Oba Femi.

Roman Reigns Reflects on WrestleMania 40 and Talks The Rock vs. Cody Rhodes

During an interview on the SI Media podcast with Jimmy Traina, WWE’s "Tribal Chief," Roman Reigns, provided candid thoughts on his WrestleMania 40 main event against Cody Rhodes as well as the possibility of a future showdown with The Rock.

Reigns admitted that he wasn’t concerned over facing Rhodes instead of The Rock, emphasizing that being in the main event was the most important factor. He stated, "It doesn’t matter to me. I was the main event. I’m the guy that everyone wanted to dance with… It was the same task in hand for me." His comments highlight his focus on defending the WWE Championship regardless of the opponent.

At WrestleMania 40, Rhodes initially won the 2024 men’s Royal Rumble and hinted that he would not challenge Reigns for the WWE title at the event. This led to speculation that The Rock would step in as Reigns’ opponent. However, WWE reversed the decision following fan backlash, which resulted in The Rock turning heel as "The Final Boss" and aligning himself with Reigns. The Rock and Reigns teamed up on Night 1 to defeat Rhodes and Seth Rollins, while Rhodes ultimately captured the WWE Championship by beating Reigns on Night 2. When asked about the possibility of a future Rock vs. Reigns match, Reigns suggested that fan demand could make it happen: "If that’s what the people want and The People’s Champ is down, I’m sure we can make something happen." The Rock made a surprise return at WWE’s Bad Blood event last month, but his intentions remain unclear. With an intense “Bloodline” WarGames match set for Survivor Series, many WWE fans speculate that The Rock could reappear and potentially set the stage for a legendary clash against Reigns.

Boxer Tommy Fury Shows Interest in WWE Career

Tommy Fury, a professional boxer and younger brother to heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, recently hinted at a possible future in WWE. Posting a YouTube video as WWE toured the UK, Tommy shared his backstage experience and praised top WWE stars including Randy Orton, Cody Rhodes, and Gunther.

He remarked, "I look forward to possibly climbing through those ropes one day. Who knows?" While Tommy has built an undefeated 10-0 boxing record and notably defeated Jake Paul, his connection to the wrestling world has drawn attention. Tyson Fury himself has a history with WWE, having wrestled Braun Strowman once at Crown Jewel 2019 and making an impactful appearance at WWE Clash at the Castle 2022. Given Tommy’s ties to the Paul family—Logan Paul is a current WWE Superstar—there is speculation that a Paul brothers vs. Fury brothers storyline could resonate well with mainstream audiences if he chooses to transition into wrestling.

Oba Femi’s Absence from NXT Raises Questions

Oba Femi, former NXT North American Champion and breakout star, has been conspicuously absent from NXT tapings for about a month. Reports from Fightful Select, cited by Ringside News, confirm that Femi hasn’t been seen on the NXT scene since his loss to Tony D’Angelo at Halloween Havoc on October 27. The reason for his absence remains unknown. It could be a strategic break following two recent defeats, including dropping the North American title after a 272-day reign and losing a rematch. Alternatively, his hiatus might indicate an impending move to WWE’s main roster or an injury-related break. Some speculate that NXT’s decision-makers may simply be allowing time for these losses to settle before reintroducing him.

Femi’s credentials are impressive, from winning the NXT Breakout Tournament to his dominant early run. Upon return, many consider him a prime candidate to challenge for the NXT Championship, potentially targeting the current titleholder, Trick Williams.

Final Thoughts

The WWE landscape remains dynamic with Roman Reigns acknowledging the ongoing saga with Cody Rhodes and The Rock, Tommy Fury teasing a possible wrestling future, and NXT star Oba Femi in a mysterious hiatus. Fans are encouraged to stay tuned for further developments, especially with major events like Survivor Series and potential blockbuster matches on the horizon.
