Roman Reigns Discusses The Rock, Cody Rhodes, Tommy Fury Eyes WWE Future, and Oba Femi’s NXT Absence

Bleacher Report provides the latest updates from the WWE Universe, highlighting comments from Roman Reigns, potential wrestling aspirations of boxer Tommy Fury, and rumors surrounding NXT superstar Oba Femi.

Roman Reigns Reflects on WrestleMania 40 Matches and Possibility of Future Clash with The Rock

In a recent interview on the SI Media podcast with Sports Illustrated’s Jimmy Traina, WWE Superstar Roman Reigns opened up about his experience headlining WrestleMania 40 against Cody Rhodes and addressed the potential for an eventual showdown with his cousin, The Rock.

Reigns recalled the uncertainty leading up to the event, where WWE seemed undecided about whether he would face Rhodes or The Rock in the main event. When asked if he was disappointed to go against Rhodes instead of The Rock, Reigns was clear that it didn’t matter to him who he faced, as long as he was in the spotlight.

“It doesn’t matter to me. I was the main event. I’m the guy that everyone wanted to dance with, you know. I am the hot chick, everyone wanted to take me out. It’s where, we just need to get there and defend this thing. It didn’t matter who it is. They are trying to stop history from happening. They are trying to take us off the pinnacle right now, so it was the same task in hand for me,” Reigns said.

After Rhodes won the 2024 men’s Royal Rumble match, it initially appeared The Rock was slated to challenge Reigns for the WWE Championship at WrestleMania 40. However, a fan backlash led Rhodes to reverse his stance, setting up the dynamic where The Rock turned heel—now calling himself The Final Boss—and aligned with Reigns. The duo defeated Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins on Night 1 of WrestleMania 40, but Rhodes captured the WWE title from Reigns on Night 2. When asked about the possibility of a future Reigns vs. The Rock match, Reigns suggested that it remains a viable option if fans demand it.

“I think our fanbase and the company’s proven that if our fans are loud enough and passionate enough about something, we’re a company who—we’re not being dictated to. We have a vision for where we’re trying to go, but we know who the consumers are. We know who’s paying their hard-earned money, and we want to satisfy those people,” he explained. “If that’s what the people want and The People’s Champ is down, I’m sure we can make something happen.”

The Rock returned unexpectedly to WWE programming at Bad Blood last month but has yet to clarify his intentions, leaving the door open for a potential reunion or rivalry with Reigns in future WWE events, possibly as soon as Survivor Series.

Boxer Tommy Fury Hints at Possible WWE Career

Tommy Fury, the undefeated professional boxer and younger brother of heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, teased interest in joining WWE.

During a recent WWE UK tour, Fury shared a YouTube video showcasing his time backstage with WWE Superstars including Randy Orton, Cody Rhodes, and Gunther. He expressed appreciation for the WWE environment and hinted at the possibility of wrestling in the company one day.

“So guys, that is a night at the WWE complete. All the wrestlers showing love. Big up to Randy Orton. Absolutely amazing guy. Big up to Cody Rhodes, all of them, Gunther, the lot of them. Thank you to the WWE for showing us such appreciation. And I look forward to possibly climbing through them ropes one day. Who knows? But it’s been a great night,” Fury said.

Tommy’s elder brother Tyson Fury previously participated in WWE, notably defeating Braun Strowman at Crown Jewel in 2019. Recently, Tyson disrupted Austin Theory’s Money in the Bank cash-in opportunity at WWE Clash at the Castle in 2022. Tommy Fury, currently 10-0 in boxing and the only boxer to have beaten Jake Paul, has a connection to the Paul brothers — with Logan Paul actively wrestling in WWE — which could naturally lend itself to interesting storylines if Tommy crosses over into pro wrestling.

Oba Femi’s Absence Fuels Speculation in NXT

Oba Femi, the former NXT North American Champion, has been noticeably absent from the NXT scene since late October. According to reports from Fightful Select, Femi has not been backstage at recent NXT tapings, with no public explanation provided for his disappearance.

Following a dominant televised debut in April 2023, Femi rose quickly, winning the NXT Breakout Tournament and capturing the North American Championship from Dragon Lee. He held the title for a record-setting 272 days before unexpectedly losing it to Tony D’Angelo last month. Femi also dropped the subsequent rematch at Halloween Havoc.

Rumors speculate his absence may be a strategic decision by NXT creative to allow him to regroup after two significant losses, or possibly a precursor to a main roster call-up or recovery from injury.

Fans anticipate his return as a strong contender to challenge for the NXT Championship, potentially positioning him to dethrone current champion Trick Williams.
