Roman Reigns Reflects on The Rock, Cody Rhodes, Tommy Fury Eyes WWE Future, and NXT Updates on Oba Femi
In the latest developments from the WWE Universe, Roman Reigns opened up about his WrestleMania 40 main event experience against Cody Rhodes, hinted at a potential future showdown with The Rock, while boxer Tommy Fury expressed interest in joining WWE. Meanwhile, NXT star Oba Femi has been notably absent from recent tapings, sparking speculation on his status.
Roman Reigns on WrestleMania 40 and The Rock
During an interview on the SI Media podcast with Sports Illustrated’s Jimmy Traina, Roman Reigns shared insights into his main event at WrestleMania 40, where he faced Cody Rhodes. Reigns downplayed any disappointment over the change in opponent from The Rock to Rhodes, emphasizing the importance of being in the main event spotlight.
“It doesn’t matter to me. I was the main event. I’m the guy that everyone wanted to dance with, you know. I am the hot chick, everyone wanted to take me out," Reigns said. "They are trying to stop history from happening… it was the same task in hand for me.”
The Royal Rumble winner Rhodes initially declined to challenge Reigns at WrestleMania, which opened the door for The Rock’s anticipated return. However, fan backlash led Rhodes to reverse course, and The Rock turned heel, aligning with Reigns as “The Final Boss.” Together, they defeated Rhodes and Seth Rollins on Night 1 of WrestleMania 40, though Rhodes reclaimed the WWE Championship from Reigns on Night 2. Looking ahead, Reigns addressed the possibility of a match against The Rock in the future. He highlighted WWE’s responsiveness to fan interest: “If that’s what the people want and The People’s Champ is down, I’m sure we can make something happen.” The Rock recently made an unannounced appearance at WWE’s Bad Blood event, adding fuel to rumors about a potential family showdown, especially with upcoming Bloodline storylines at Survivor Series.
Tommy Fury Considers Pro Wrestling Path with WWE
British boxer Tommy Fury, younger brother of former heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, hinted at exploring professional wrestling with WWE. Posting from backstage during WWE’s UK tour, Fury praised several WWE Superstars including Randy Orton and Cody Rhodes.
“I look forward to possibly climbing through them ropes one day. Who knows? But it’s been a great night,” Fury said in a YouTube video.
Tommy Fury holds an undefeated professional boxing record, including a notable victory over Jake Paul. Given his family connections and existing rivalries involving the Paul brothers in WWE, Fury’s crossover into wrestling could be a compelling storyline for WWE’s mainstream audience.
Oba Femi’s Mysterious Absence from NXT
Former NXT North American Champion Oba Femi has not appeared on NXT programming or at tapings since late October, following his loss and rematch against Tony D’Angelo at Halloween Havoc. While the official reason for his absence remains unclear, Fightful Select reports he has simply not been backstage in recent weeks.
Femi enjoyed a strong run since debuting in April 2023, including winning the NXT Breakout Tournament and holding the North American title for a record-setting 272 days before dropping it last month. WWE might be allowing him time to reset after these setbacks or potentially preparing him for a push either on the main roster or back in NXT, possibly targeting the NXT Championship.
Fans will be watching closely for any updates on his return, which could shake up the current NXT landscape dominated by Trick Williams.
