WWE Updates: Roman Reigns on The Rock and Cody Rhodes, Tommy Fury Eyes WWE Future, and Oba Femi’s NXT Absence
By Mike Chiari | Bleacher Report – November 27, 2024
Bleacher Report brings you the latest from the WWE Universe, covering Roman Reigns’ recent comments on WrestleMania 40, boxer Tommy Fury’s interest in pro wrestling, and NXT star Oba Femi’s mysterious absence.
Roman Reigns Reflects on WrestleMania 40 Matchups and Potential Future Clash with The Rock
Roman Reigns recently sat down with Sports Illustrated’s Jimmy Traina on the SI Media podcast to share his thoughts about the main event scene at WrestleMania 40 and his relationships with two key figures — The Rock and Cody Rhodes.
When asked if he was disappointed to face Cody Rhodes instead of The Rock in the WrestleMania main event, Reigns was clear that he was focused on being in the spotlight regardless of the opponent.
“It doesn’t matter to me. I was the main event. I’m the guy that everyone wanted to dance with… It was the same task in hand for me,” Reigns said.
Following Rhodes’ win in the 2024 men’s Royal Rumble, initial plans appeared to feature The Rock challenging Reigns for the WWE Championship at WrestleMania. However, fan backlash led to a storyline reversal, with Rhodes ultimately facing Reigns on Night 2 and The Rock turning heel as “The Final Boss,” aligning with Reigns.
The Rock and Reigns teamed up to defeat Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins on Night 1 of WrestleMania 40, while Rhodes triumphed over Reigns for the WWE title on Night 2. The much-anticipated one-on-one Rock vs. Reigns match did not take place, but Reigns hinted it could still happen if fans passionately demand it.
“If that’s what the people want and The People’s Champ is down, I’m sure we can make something happen,” Reigns said.
The Rock surprised fans with an unannounced WWE appearance at last month’s Bad Blood event, but has since been absent from programming. With the Bloodline’s new and original factions clashing in a WarGames match at Survivor Series, many speculate this could be the ideal time for The Rock to return and rekindle his rivalry with Reigns.
Tommy Fury Expresses Interest in Pursuing WWE Career
Boxer Tommy Fury, younger brother of former world heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, has hinted that he could be interested in stepping into the world of WWE wrestling one day.
In a recent YouTube video filmed backstage during WWE’s UK tour, Fury shared his enthusiasm for the sport and his experiences interacting with WWE stars:
“It’s been a great night… I look forward to possibly climbing through those ropes one day. Who knows?”
Tommy Fury, who holds an undefeated professional boxing record of 10-0 and is the only person to have defeated Jake Paul in boxing, seems poised to leverage his combat sports background if he ventures into wrestling. Given his connections with the Paul family, a potential storyline involving Tommy Fury and Logan Paul, a WWE Superstar and former United States Champion, could draw mainstream attention.
His brother Tyson’s history with WWE—including a match against Braun Strowman at Crown Jewel 2019 and a notable appearance at Clash at the Castle 2022—adds another exciting layer to Tommy’s possible WWE pursuits.
Oba Femi Reportedly Off NXT TV Following Halloween Havoc Defeat
Former NXT North American Champion Oba Femi has not been seen on NXT television or backstage in recent weeks, according to reports from Fightful Select.
Since losing his North American Championship to Tony D’Angelo at the October 27 Halloween Havoc event — ending a record 272-day reign — and subsequently dropping a rematch, Femi has been notably absent from NXT tapings.
The reasons for Femi’s absence are not confirmed. Possibilities include allowing the star to recover physically or mentally from consecutive losses, preparing for a call-up to WWE’s main roster, or simply a creative decision to let his character reset.
Femi has been a rising star since his April 2023 NXT debut, having won the Breakout Tournament and capturing the North American title. Many see him as a strong contender to chase the NXT Championship upon his return, potentially positioning him against current titleholder Trick Williams.
